I would take black or matte bronze Ray 10s over the TRD wheels any day.

Can you post up a pic or two from the side? I’d like to see how this looks.

The offset alone makes the SCS worth it.

I too hate the OR wheels. I want SCS Ray10s or F5s something fierce.. and the new 17x9 just makes it even better. AND they now come in blue! So gorgeous.

BTW I'm sporting 285s on my OR wheels with just a bilstein 5100 lift (2.5") with a daystar 1.5" rear spacer. Also spidertrax wheel spacers. Haven't done a BMC yet (not sure I need to) but did have to trim the front bumper and used a heat gun to mold my fenders out of the way.

I will be moving to SCS or Black Rhino wheels should I decide to keep the 4Runner around longer than anticipated. That said, the TRD Pro wheels that came on our Pro look good and have done well with the 275's that have been on there there the past 20K miles. I have aired down to 15 psi many times with no issues and I have never rubbed.

My vote would be either SCS f5 or stealth 6 - they're both around 22# per wheel. I also like the FN wheels.

The offset on the Pro wheel will also probably preclude you from doing a BMC with the right alignment and caster. I do like the SCS Ray 10’s, but, I would have to paint all the cubic zirconium’s going around the rim black.

That is exactly what I did. Pulled the fake chrome bolts, ordered some SS button heads from MsMaster Carr, then sent them off to PCbolts.com to be black powder coated. Looks much better IMO. Plus even chrome will get surface rust, I have seen several other wheels with rust drips around the bolts

I like the look, being different, offset, weight and width for improved sidewall support for road driving. I think a lot of people overlook the weight, add a heavy tire and things like handling, gas mileage, acceleration and braking are greatly impacted. Going with Rays 10 and 265 AT3W Wildpeaks SLs I lost 2lbs per wheel over the stock ORP wheels and tires. A win win

I did get rubbing. Fender mod, removed factory mud flaps and replaced with Rally Armor. Driver side still barley rubs at full lock, but no lift yet. 7.5 width (gunmetal)

I went from the Pro wheels on 275/70 KO2s to the 17x8.5 -10mm SCS Ray 10s on 285/70 Ridge Grapplers and have had no regrets. The hardest part is getting the SCS wheels, so good luck!

If I do swap my wheels someday man it is a tough choice between the F5’s and Ray 10’s . But I’m definitely leaning towards the easy to clean wheel the F5’s. Also they do look bad with that deep dish look!!

Wheels & Tires

My Off-Road Premium should show up at the dealership in 3 or 4 weeks so this discussion is really helping with my thinking concerning upgrades to wheels and tires. I have read several posts by folks running 285/70R17s on the TRD wheels. My concern is the fact most tire manufacturers (at least the ones I'm considering) all recommend a wider wheel. Since there are a number of wheels that provide that width AND have a backspace measurement at or near stock, that seems to be the way to go.

So, my current thinking is an 8" wide wheel with a 4.5" backspace.

Does anyone see any problems with that approach?

Are you running wheel spacers with the SCS wheels as well?

I am indeed. I bought them (SpiderTrax) when I was running my Pro wheels and put them on with the SCS wheels. BUTTTTT, even after BMC, removal of mud flaps, fender liner mod, and bumper trim, I'm still rubbing on the rocker panel, so I'm taking them off. The offset/backspacing from the Ray10s is just too much to also run spacers.

If you're interested in them, let me know. $170 for all 4 spacers (located in Austin, TX) - they have about 900 miles on them. I paid $225.
