Exhaust ?
I think that my Y pipe has a hole in it. I have a 2010 SR5 4x4 with 130,000 miles on the ODO.
If I buy the URD "off road" Y pipe and match it up to the Gibson SS, single tip exhaust, will I gain fuel mileage or lose it ? (I don't want a loud sounding exhaust system)
Will I throw a check engine light ?
Lastly, Will I gain MPG if I add a S & B cold air intake ?
Looking for responses from those that might have done these modifications.

Short answer is no MPG gain. (I tracked mine for over 10 tanks and it's barely a break even)
One could argue that you will actually lose MPG's because now that your T4R sounds cool, we can't keep our foot out of the throttle.
Keep in mind the CAI uses the exact same hole in the fender that you OEM airbox uses. It's performance is purely cosmetic and auditory. The butt dyno makes me think there is a slight HP gain, but I can't verify that.
If I recall there is a thread on here where someone actually tested theirs before and after on a real dyno.....
Here you go

Thanks for the reply. I don't know if I want to keep this 4R, or get a new one.
I also am looking into a new Tundra. I'm just not sure that the quality will be the same as the 4R.

130,000? She’s just breaking in!
I’d start by figuring out exactly where you may have a leak. I’m waiting for my system to go so I can upgrade but I assumed it would last way longer than 130,000.
Gains? No. Expect no real gains from any of those “upgrades,” especially the intake.

You won’t throw any codes.
With just the ypipe you’ll feel a little throttle response
With the ypipe and catback you’ll feel a little more throttle response.
Mpg gain? Maybe 1mpg.
cai upgrade. You’ll just hear your intake.
If you go tundra. Don’t expect any mpg savings. That motor is just as old as our 4R. Add lift and larger tires you’ll get horrible mpg.
Good luck.

I can't speak to the Gibson, but my Borla Touring is super quiet with a nice tone and doesn't drone at all. It has a great sound and gave me a nice get up by itself. I paired it with an AFE Momentum GT intake and it gives me a nice boost in power. Adding a cat-back and intake will give you a few hp each, but together is's a great mix. My truck gets up and goes way better than before and my fiancee doesn't even realize that I did those upgrades because she can't hear the difference, win win lol.

I realize that the Tundra won't be good on gas, but I was considering the 4.6L V8 because I don't tow anything. I won't be lifting it either and will keep the OEM size tires.

My Borla S Type is loud until I get into 5th gear I’m planning on throwing a resonator on it. Hopefully cut the dB down a bit. But I do feel the difference. Reason I don’t not to put the stock exhaust back on.
Also 7/1 were getting a gas tax hike. 5.6 cents. I love Cali. Lol. Who ever voted for that are gullible idiots.

Just did exhaust swap on my 17. Had several different combinations over three different 4Runners. IMO, this is best set-up for MPG and power increase.
URD Y-Pipe, Borla Cat-Back and TRD CAI with Carbon Filter removed. Very slight noise increase, no drone, no noise from CAI until WOT.
No I did not dyno before or after...…..seeing around town 18-18.5MPG. On the road 19.5-20MPG.
It pulls hills better with less dropping out of OD.
Install was easy with no codes. Did Y-Pipe and Borla at same time. Fashioned rear shim to drop tail pipe 3/4 in providing clearance to rear bumper.
Good Luck

Communist Illinois just raised gas tax from 19 cents per gallon to 44 cents. I hate this state. But I digress.
I’m surprised to hear that about the Borla. ANYTHING Borla I’ve ever used or encountered has been subtle.

Just put a Borla S on and it is super quiet! No drone or anything. Glad I got one.

Which Borla did you go with? The Touring or the S?

I have the Borla S version and love it too. They really make a nice product. No drone at all and not overly loud.

I have the Borla S-type and at anything over 2k RPM, it's pretty much loud as hell. It got even louder after I towed a drift boat to Montana, for some reason. It's actually in the shop as I type seeing if there is something wrong with it...
