Remotely locking running vehicle from the outside

I travel a lot with my dog. There are times when I need to run in a convenience store or something and she has to stay in the 4Runner. It's getting pretty hot, so I've started leaving the vehicle running with the AC on instead of just cracking a few windows.

Using a 2nd key, I can lock the vehicle by physically inserting the key into the keyhole and locking it. Works fine. But it would be nice to be able to hit the remote lock button on the key instead. Toyota doesn't seem to want me to do this.

Thoughts?

If this were a VW product then you could code it in, but I'm not sure if Techstream could help here.

Perhaps someone can chime in here.

But - you also need to make a sign that says "A/C is on, dog is comfy" to keep somebody from playing hero and trying to save your dog by busting a window or calling the cops.

What barrier are you using to keep the pooch in the back? Without a barrier, my GSD always ends up in the driver's seat - never the passenger seat.

"The dog has the radio tuned to his favorite station, the AC is on, and he has a water bowl on the floor.

Do not break glass, you hysterical hippie shitstain."

I keep the 2nd row seats folded down with a foam pad on top and she stays there.

A sign is probably a good idea. I'd hope people would hear the engine, but people often aren't bright.

I just added an Accessorides remote start. When you park turn the vehicle off and remove the key. Walk away and hit the lock button three times. That will start the truck and lock the door. When you return push the unlock once, insert the key, turn to position 2, and you're good to go, with the engine still running. Only requires that you push a button two more times over normal exit and lock procedure. Oh, and buying/installing the remote start. But then you have a remote start, so there's that........

Same, I have the Accessorides remote start and will lock the door and then remote start with the air running, doors are locked, and don't need a second key. Then when I return, just hit the unlock button, get in, insert the key and drive off, works great. And installation is 100% plug and play

It does have a timer though. Think its 15min maybe programable to 30

Man, I don't have any input as to how to do this... only a story that almost ruined a 2600 mile road trip about 600 miles in.

Back in September we were on our way to Maine and stopped at Lake George near Adirondacks... we were parked in a public parking area. We had our chi with us on this adventure, we take him everywhere! It was a nice cool evening, about 65* if I remember correctly, sun was basically completely set and the car was nice and cool. I left the sunroof open because nobody can see it, and the back window down slightly.. you can't tell because of the spoiler of the 4r. We walked about the equivalent of 2-3 blocks to get ice cream, got our ice cream and literally walked back to the car while eating our ice cream (this was roughly 15 mins TOPS!).

When I arrived back to our 4runner it was surrounded by 3 irate elderly women, one with a giant piece of curb or rock in her hand... and 3 park rangers with the a police officer literally driving up to the scene.

My dog was so worked up because these aholes were standing there screaming the entire time we were gone. Apparently she told the park rangers multiple times she was going to break my windows to free my dog.

At first the cop gave me a hard time until he realized my sunroof was wide open and the back window was cracked by about 3", and my dog was left with a full water dish... quickly diffused the situation.

Always a hero out there.. and I realize that in some situations it applies, this however was not one of them and would have ruined our entire vacation had this idiot busted our window.

I was hoping someone would have a solution for locking the door for when my dog is inside the 4R and I have to run in somewhere. Thanks for your post!
