2018 Premium with about 40K and paint is crap. Thin and soft. My real reason for buying Toyota is the high miles I can pile on. At this rate the paint won’t last and negates the reason to purchase. They need to do better.

**** Toyota and its paint jobs. My six month old SR5P already has paint peeling on the front fender flares. SIX MONTHS. Nautical blue.

It's unfortunate for sure and has me considering wrapping the whole thing in PPF. Or at a minimum extending my front-end coverage all the way to the doors.

To be fair, these problems aren't just an issue with Toyota. I saw it in my '15 Focus ST and my '11 Audi S4 (fenders specifically). Paint peeling on the S4 was a known issue that Audi wouldn't acknowledge despite adding rock guards to the front wheel wells on '13+ model S4s.

old thread, but Its worth the investment to have the truck wrapped or just the front end done.

Yeah the only way to stop it. Full wrap. I did not do it to my 2020 Pro. But my new 19 C7 Z06 soon as I bought it. It’s black. Full paint correction and full Suntex wrapped. The whole car and ceramic coated. I love it. Don’t have to worry about touching it and getting scratches or swirls.

Modern paint sucks. Mine is chipped and scratched to hell and rust is beginning to show in the chips.

I have a 2018 Macan that has dreadful chips on the hood at less than 20k miles.

My 2007 FJ Cruiser had the clear coat gone from the roof at 70k miles.

Our 2021 ORP in Super White has less than 600 miles and already has rock chips. I can tell it’s going to be a pain to maintain and not to mention all the orange peel.

From what I can tell so far in 5k miles my silver 4Runner paint is no better or worse than any others I’ve seen in the past 10 years or so.

I have to agree with this. It's on every car forum I am on... I brought home a new BMW X5M Competition a couple months back. Drove home from from the dealership without PPF. 3 freakin rock chips through the primer on the hood and bumper.

Hadn't even driven 200 miles and there was damage. Toyota doesn't have a great paint reputation, but everyone has the same issues these days with the low VOC and water bourne paints.

My super white '19 is fine at 42k miles. No better or worse than anything else I've had in the past 20 years, except an '03 Silverado that had the best paint of any vehicle I've ever owned.

For Voodoo blue owners.....get the Dr Colorchip kit. I have Voodoo blue and the kit matches perfectly. Being a non metallic color makes it easier. I’ve had a number of chips but they are virtually undetectable after using Dr Colorchip.

I have a grey 2020 trdor 10k mi...I have no chips but I do have some pretty noticable trail rash down the doors in the clear coat...I barely even heard any real scraping while I was riding the trail. I want to get it wrapped or bedlinered.

The 4Runner paint is just rubbish. After 1 year of owning my 2020 Red SR5P I have a couple scratches, a few deep stone chips (in the middle of the hood) and many small ones on the front fascia. Thats at 14k miles. There wont be any paint left on this thing at 100k.

Just to add a little more on this topic, my wife’s Acura 2018 TLX, in white pearl doesn't have any scratches and it just has the normal stone chips on the front. The paint is much better on the Acura.

I dunno. My 2019 super white is fine. I mean, there are chips and stuff. I even gouged it once by accidentally scraping the pocket clip of a knife against the door when I was trying to get in in a tight garage. The scrape is quite deep but not to the metal.

It behaves much like other cars I've had before. I can't say that the paint on the 4Runner is any better or worse than a dozen+ cars I've owned long-term before.
