My $5 mod in 5 mins.

I did mine today. Easiest mod yet! ‘16 trail and the wire was in the back of the dummy cover, plugged into my eBay sensor and now my dash lights and nav screen auto adjust. Awesome!

I don’t have the stock harness (nor the wires that go into the main body ecu) so I’m going to add a direct patch. To do this I’ll need the stock connector, some wire, and the terminal pins (I already have the sensor).

The connector and wires aren’t a problem, but I’m having trouble locating the correct part number for the terminal which need to be added to the main body ECU. The pins need to be added to connector F9 (part number 90980-12753).

Unfortunately, I can’t (nor can the dealer) find the correct part number for the replacement or repair terminals. The dealer was able to find a terminal that “might be” the correct one, but at $40 each (x4), this is a cost prohibitive hunch.

Does anyone have the correct Toyota part number and/or manufacturers name and part number?

Thanks

Finally got around to adding the missing wiring harness today. Since both the BCM and light sensor wiring harnesses were missing, I used a Remote Start T-Harness to add the pins to the BCM connector. The harness I used was iDatalink ADS-THR-TL7, which is meant for the Push-To-Start model (even though my vehicle uses the G Key), but the F9 T-Harness can be recycled from this kit.

Good news is that adding the sensor and wiring to a SR5 does function as expected; dash lights and navigation react to light changes.

So, anyone who's install didn't work, you might want to look and see if pins 20,21 and 22 are populated on the middle BCM plug (F9).

Next up... trying to add auto headlights.

Yep, wire was there, but turn on the lights and it goes dim in broad daylight.

Still hoping they begin selling a 2020 sensor at this price point.

Would love to get auto headlights. My wife's biggest complaint I'd say.

Did you check for both wires?

The connector that plugs into the sensor is only half of the harness. the other half plugs into the BCM.

2020 Limited Light Sensor

The dash sensor in my 2020 Limited is a real sensor.

When I was trying to remove it, the top cover came off. It has a couple of small chips and some clear gel in it.

I could not get the sensor out using the credit card tricks and such - it is just too tight.

What is this sensors function?

???

Why are you trying to remove it? The entire plug should pop out, not just the ‘cover’.

Sensors function has been discussed in great length...

The consensus was that the sensor was a blank plug and could be replaced with the aftermarket sensor as discussed in this thread. It is not a blank plug and I can not tell if it is controlling anything?

Hit it with a light or cover it up and my nav screen lighting does not change?
