Mine was like that when I bought it used two years ago. Cheap "leather" and sunscreen on hands is the issue. I thought about taking it to my local upholstery shop to have that section replaced with higher quality leather.

I got my certified 2018 SR5 Premium back in May. Came with just under 20k miles on it and I’ve put 6k miles on so far. The top of my wheel is peeling just like the others. I have an extended warranty and still have the original warranty. Going to call the dealership and see if they’ll replace it. Has anyone had any luck getting it replaced for free?

Noticed mine this morning...I was wondering if using hand sanitizer before getting in caused it. But that is only like once a week, good to know that it is not my carelessness, bad to know that I'm out of warranty.

My '14 limited started to do it at 30k. I bought it used so I knew they wouldn't cover it . I got some leather stain off of Amazon. It seemed to hold up for a couple of years.

I was cleaning my car yesterday and noticed that my 2017 TRD ORP was starting peel at the top, car has 38K miles on it.
I don't wear a ring nor do I hold the wheel at that spot so im at a loss why it would peel there.
looking for links to covers people used with good results

Damn, my 2018 ORP started peeling maybe 2 months ago, driving me crazy.. Only thing I ever used to clean it was Mothers (I think) VLR.

Running the same cover(not the best pic). Laced it with black thread, to cut down on the red stitching. Not sure what took me so long to do it, love a leather wrapped steering wheel and have done all my cars over the years.

My JL Rubicon had a proper leather wheel... honestly, everything you see in this view was better than the new 4R. Not the whole vehicle, but the quality of interior materials, the infotainment functionality and display quality, and most of the user interfaces in general were way better than the 4Runner. But it was still a Jeep and I found by owning it that I like the 4Runner better.

Weird question but do wranglers ever have the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel (lane departure? Not sure what controls they are)

That blank spot on the right side of the steering wheel is for adaptive cruise control.
