What options are available to control the door unlock/lock functions? Is their more head room in the front row? Are the seats comfier? Do you plan to use premium gas? Does it shift better? How is the infotainment compared to 4Runner? How does front and rear legroom compare? How about cargo space? Does it have the dynamic lines in the backup camera? If you had to pick one for a DD used mainly on highway, which would you pick?
Considering trading my 64k mile 4Runner for a 80k mile Lexus, terrible idea? I know Lexuses have the same if not more reliability than Toyota’s.
Sorry I asked a lot of questions.

you can control how the door locks/unlocks on shift to D, P and speed based as well as only driver door or all doors unlock on shift to P. i did not notice any more headroom in the front row. the infotainment is pretty much the same albeit very slight differences. i do plan on using premium as that is what is recommended. shifting and braking feels the same - torque is the biggest difference. 1st and 2nd row leg room is exactly the same but the second row has the ability to slide. cargo space is exactly the same except for the higher ceiling height. backup cam is exactly the same. dd on highway - gx for sure. and while the v8 should be thirstier i predict mpg to be about the same cause of the extra gear.
if they are priced the same, i would pick the gx over the 4r on all the added options and better materials.

Although you haven’t had it long, how would you say the gx460 resale value compares to a 4Runner Limited?

i think the gx will hold its resale % value just as similarly to the 4r based on my research on looking for a used gx. the 4r holds great resale value but the gx sales volume is between 1/4 and 1/3 that of the 4r. if i had to pick only one car to own, i think reality is that i would probably prefer the gx because it has more creature comforts. the rear door doesn't bother me as me as the missing digital mph gauge and the funky hvac. luckily for me, i get to own both.

I had a 2014 GX a few years ago after trading a hail damaged 15 Limited 4Runner.
I liked the V8 in the GX, and didn't seem to get substantially worse mpg (about 1 less than the 4Runner did). It felt smoother to me, and the torque was noticeable. I did use premium gas, but I also put at least mid grade in the 4Runner, so not a big difference for me.
Also, mine had the adjustable suspension, which was noticeable between comfort and sport settings.
Overall, interior quality of materials seemed better, seats were softer, stereo system was great for a factory unit, and the vehicle was much quieter inside.
Factory HID headlights and LED drl's were a bonus, as well.
As for resale value, I would say it was comparable to the 4Runner when it came time to sell.
Things I didn't like included 3rd row seats (I don't have a need for these) and the weird climate control access. As others have said, it takes a few button pushes to get to where you can turn on/off the a/c. Alternatively, you can leave it in 'auto" and let the truck figure it out.

I went through this same thing before buying the 4Runner.
Interior of the GX is leaps and bounds nicer than the 4Runner. Real leather on the Premium (10-13) and Luxury (14+) models, heated/cooled seats, heated second row, can get factory screens in the optional top-end package tht are molded into the back of the front row.
HVAC / Infotainment on the GX SUCKS in my opinion. It's dated, it's clunky, and it's an all-in-on unit which means almost everything other than the temperature is a touch-screen. And the temp is up and down buttons, not a knob which I dislike.
The rear door is huge. I didn't think I'd mind it but once we saw it in person it's like "Oh, wow. That's giant." You'll never open it in the garage unless you've got an extra 3'-4' behind the car.
The transmission and engine are a much better driving combo than the 4Runner. Shifts super smooth and doesn't feel like a slug for normal city driving
KDSS was a must-have for us, so it was nice that all models had KDSS and it wasn't just an option on some trims.
Engine is a timing belt, meaning it needs changing.
All in all the lady wasn't sold on the GX and the dated all-in-one infotainment, larger size and "lethargic" looks of the car kept us with the 4Runner (we have a 13 Trail). Interior not nearly as nice and louder (plan to sound deaden at some point down the road), but we're quite happy and I wouldn't swap now.
