I'm going in for mine next week and I will be sure to take all of this into account when I get it back.

Sure enough I went and checked mine that was done last week (2015 Limited) and there is a hump there as well. Not quite as pronounced as the OP but a hump nonetheless. Have to take it back Friday to hopefully be remedied.

Do we have someone with a service manual that shows how to do the replacement?

They do not need to pull up the dash to pre-fit. In fact they just took care of it when I had other work done under warranty.

The manager who tried to tell you that is ok should be fire.

The technician who performed the job and released it as completed should be fired.

Hands down unacceptable, I wouldn't even give them a chance and would go straight to corporate. They had their chance when he asked the manager if it was supposed to look like that. Instead of lying he should have said he was not sure but if he could bring it back he would have a technician look at it.

Let's stop pretending like anyone at Toyota corporate offices is going to give one solitary f*ck about this issue in any way that will end up being beneficial to the OP.

Just be a normal human being, call the service manager Friday and say hey, there's a big hump in my dash now that wasn't there before my airbag recall work. I'd like to come drop it off and get a loaner if possible. I'm a little concerned about the passenger airbag not working correctly-how soon can you get me on the schedule?

How's that for a slice of fried gold

2014 Limited here.... and the air bag replacement is invisible. No change at all in fit and appearance of dash parts. No new squeaks or rattles. And in my case the glove compartment contents were replaced in a more organized manner. Work with your dealer or Toyota rep to resolve.

My dash had a similar bump after the recall was performed, though not anywhere near as pronounced. Went right back to the service writer upon noticing it, a tech took a look at it and ordered a new dash pad, no questions asked. After they replaced the dash pad I now have a chirping noise coming out of the dash, around the instrument cluster area, every time I accelerate somewhat hard. The dealership had the dash taken apart twice trying to locate the source of the noise to no avail. At the end they chalked it up to "normal engine noise" - which is total BS since the chirp wasn't there until they messed around with the dash.
OP, you may want to consider a different dealership. If they removed the dash to scan the airbag (?!) before they ordered the part and then returned the vehicle back to you looking like this... I'd have very low expectations of them being able to fix this amicably.

Angry

HOLY CRAP !!...mine looks the same way !!...I had the recall done a day before I went on vacation and only noticed it only a few days ago. Didn't know if it would be easier to fix myself but I'll let the dealership handle it !!...I don't know if the dash is not secured in that corner or maybe was bent up during removal or installation...I'll be calling the dealership tomorrow...let me know what happens with yours !!

I have so been on the fence about this. I don't drive the truck much, if at all with a passenger and just so many Q&A nightmares, not to mention my own not so great dealership experiences.

WTF and I just made an appointment for tomorrow... f^(king canceling, I'm pulling a no show until maybe some more get done.

Anyone have one done in Utah yet? if so where and did they do a good job?

Ditto.

Just had mine done today, and I can't tell that anything was done. No rattles or other noises on the way home... no greasy hand prints all over the dash, no unexplained hump. As a precaution, I emptied my glovebox before taking it in. And I got all paranoid after seeing this thread... so I took a bunch of "before" pictures, just in case. I gave them the whole day to work on it, so as not to rush them. It's a pretty big dealership, so I gotta think they've done a ton of them already by now. I avoid dealership service departments like the plague, so it was hard for me to leave it in their hands.

OP... sorry you and others have not had a good experience with this. Hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction.
