Well, 2 months after the build was complete, I got rear ended on I-96 in Michigan coming home from the family vacation. Impossible to tell how fast, but no airbag deployment in any of the 4 vehicles. We were all braking hard, and I was the front vehicle and last to be hit.
I can't upload right now, and pics might not even help, but the bumper damage isn't horrendous. My recovery hitch went into the Escape behind me below the headlight. I'm guessing I was hit at 15-20mph? Again massive deceleration at the time.
Here's the issue. While I can't see anything obvious from quick checking, the back side of the hitch was into the spare. The spare is a 275 Falken...so it had only a little clearance to begin with. I dropped the wheel and winched it back up, and some clearance returned.
However, there was a modest alignment issue upon driving...to the right. No vibrations or shakes. Seemed to do ok otherwise...?
My wife and I got slight headaches but we are ok. The 4yr old girl is good to go.
Bent, bent and totaled, or I got lucky? 2016 TEP KDSS, 90k miles. Calling the insurance company tomorrow.
