Interesting… I didn’t think to consider the on-road improvements. I don’t want to derail this thread, but now I am even more curious as to how to compares to XREAS because that drives VERY street centric. For an SUV it feels very flat though turns. Might have to take the time to find one and play with it to compare.

Doesn't KDSS disable above a certain MPH? If so then it wouldn't help much for cornering.
My Runner has it but I do high speed desert running so KDSS doesn't help there.

Pretty sure no. But it is probably felt less at high speeds.
But for normal cornering it sure as hell can be felt. My lifted 4R handles better than my wifes Highlander. I've also rode in my friend SR5 can you can tell. Its not a fix all but I think its worth it. wasn't an option down here either all TRD OR comes with them unless you want to special order.

Had a 2011 SR5 and now a 2018 ORP with KDSS. There is no doubt that the ORP handles and corners way better and has a much smoother ride. Not sure why, but I can tell you that the tires were the same, so it has to be suspension or KDSS....dunno.... my guess is it has to do with the KDSS but I have read it disables over 12 MPH. Again, dunno....I like it!

Look at the post below. Another dude also read that it disables itself.
Different vehicles compared though.
OP - Pro Bro is not worth what it comes with.

I opted to go with the TRD ORP without KDSS or sunroof and opted to pour the money I saved into a top of the line suspension that is much more performant than the TRD PRO for the same amount of money. (Actually a little less) I test drove KDSS and non KDSS and it was neat and interesting from a technical perspective but wasn’t impressed enough to spend the cheddar and risk the potential problems associated with lifting and the KDSS. I don’t mind a little more lean in the corners and the suspension I’m adding will stiffen it up considerably. I’m by no means making a recommendation based on my choices, I can only recommend making an informed choice. Best of luck with your research!

I believe it disables above 12mph. By disabling, I mean you lose the extra articulation as the fluids are "locked" in. Below 12mph, the fluid flows freely so you get more articulation.

I believe you meant above 12mph it locks up as in disables. If so I agree with you.

No way in hell it disables above just 12mph. Thats almost rolling speed lol.
Maybe its just in my head.
Maybe this is where the 12mph got pulled out of air?
How or when does KDSS kick in?

I remember the 12mph came from the thread where a few tech folks were trying unlock the kdss cylinders via a switch

Well think about what it's for...it's meant to increase articulation which is needed at low speed when crawling on rutted/rocky terrain. It makes sense to cut it off at high speed since it doesn't help and may overheat the system with constant, fast wheel travel.

This is a good illustration of how KDSS works.

I know you've made your choice but I'll offer my experience for those still reading. I went from a 07 SR5 (totaled) to a 14 Trail Premium with KDSS (only one I could find apparently). There is most certainly a difference. I would say it's hard to experience over short journeys and really depends on the type of roads as well as your driving style. I have found it to be rather nice and offering me way less body roll especially at faster speeds. I do a lot of city driving around less then kind commuters and the extra agility is nice when I need it. Got to be nimble if you want to avoid being slammed into by the inept.
Not sure saying it disables is accurate. I believe the idea is that reservoir closes stiffening the swaybar in the process by restricting the KDSS piston movements. The video link might clarify; I haven't watched it in a while. Better handling at faster speeds and more articulation at slower speeds is generally how they pitch it. I should add that these are benefits over say a normal stock swaybar. There are still other traditional options available.
No matter how you decided it was always a win because it's a 4Runner.
