Oil Filters vs Cotton

Hey guys looking to get a cold air Intake setup for my rig. I know there’s not a huge difference but I’m going for it anyway. Was hoping for some information on going with either an oiled type filter vs paper or cotton that is cleanable or replaceable. Thanks!

If the filter medium requires oiling it can sometimes be over-oiled and mess up the MAF sensor. If you are careful with oiling then you should be fine. If you do mess up the MAF sensor they make a MAF sensor cleaner. If you need to replace the MAF sensor then it can get expensive.

Last year, in prep for my supercharger install I was talking to Gadget at URD about filters and which ones he suggested/uses on his vehicles. His answer was aFe ProDry-S filter. Never need oiled, so can't screw up a MAF, and are still washable so you only need at max 2 (one to use while the other is drying). In fairness he is an aFe dealer, but the points are still valid. I've gone this route and not looked back. I hated messing with oiled filters and would rather do a cheap FRAM than deal with that PITA again.
aFe does offer their MomentumGT CAI with one of these filters. It worked for me very well in combination with URD's MAF calibrator. I suggest that combination for those wanting a peppier drive without the supercharger cost.

Excellent info. Much appreciated. I am thinking of going with the S&B CIA. I like the clear window to see the status of the filter. They too offer a non oil filter which was my thought as well.

I have used K&N oiled filters for around 20 years, I've never had an issue with MAF or MAP sensors getting clogged with oil from an air filter. I recently added my AFE Intake and went with the oiled filter because it had the highest airflow rating, love it and have no regrets
