It sounds like you got a defective wrench. It's rare, but occasionally during manufacturing the lower portion of the wrench becomes slightly rotated and no longer correctly indexed with the 64mm hex portion above which causes the problem you're describing. I was able to find your order that you placed on Amazon on 7/5/2019, just confirm for me that the shipping address is still good for you and I'll have our warehouse send you a replacement out today for you at no charge. I'm also including a pre-paid return shipping label for you to send the defective wrench back, we would like to inspect it to make sure that's the issue. Just print it out and attach it to the box and drop it in the mail. Let me know on the address and if you have any additional questions. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience. -Motivx Support Team

Glad you got it worked out. Also glad I purchased a Motivx wrench. Love to buy products from companies that care and stand behind their products.

Can someone confirm if the center tube from the plastic housing needs to swapped to the metal housing? I haven’t ordered yet but thought the tube is longer from the plastic housing.
Thanks.

Yes you will have to swap out the center tube from the plastic housing to the metal housing. You'll need to bend the center tabs slightly up, then push center tube down and rotate to remove it. Reverse directions to install into metal housing, then bend center tabs back down.

If the Motivx oil filter wrench is ordered directly from them, it can be printed with custom text with a choice of fonts.

Does the new tool fit the original one? What do you see differently from the plastic one you replaced?

you don't need to bend the tabs to get the center tube out. There are instructions on the Trail4runner site that explains how to push down on the top of the tube then slide the bottom or something like that. Mine came right out.

Not sure I understand the question. haven't replaced mine yet, but I'm assuming the new tool will work on the plastic housing just like it does on the metal one in the pic above.

Yep. Written by yours truly...
Metal Oil Filter Housing Upgrade + Motivx Tools Oil Filter Wrench
To reinstall the tube, first insert the bottom plate, with the domed side facing up. Put the spring inside the tube. Insert the tube into the housing at an angle, placing the tabs of it under the “feet” inside the housing. Push in at the bottom of the tube, while applying pressure at the top. Once installed, the tube should have spring tension on it. Press down on it a few times to ensure that it moves freely, and does not come out of the housing.

In your pic the metal housing does not line up with the metal removal tool notches.
But I think I get the issue if the internals needed swapped to work.
I am surprised that the fit was that far off though.
