Oil filter housing upgrade question
Recently bought the parts to upgrade the plastic housing to the aluminum style. Figured I'd have everything on hand including the tool for when I finally have to do my own oil changes.
Anyway, per all the threads, I ordered the following housing:
PN 15620-31060.
Also purchased the recommended Motivx housing removal tool..MX2320
was checking to see if the tool would work on the new housing and the keys aren't lining up...
Was the tool mislabeled or am I just overlooking something really simple?

No filter housing is the wrong one, I believe people have bought that one it’s for a rav4 and used it on the 4runner by swapping out the center tube from the plastic one. But you would need the rav4 filter wrench.

I have the exact filter cap and removal tool. I've been using both on my 2018 SR5 for the last year. No problems at all.
Three slots on one side..the middle slot and the single slot on the other side should line up. If not, removal tool is defective.

Did you try rotating the filter wrench 180°? I have the same housing and wrench, and I'd have to check but I want to say it only goes on one way, because either the notches on the wrench or the ribs on the housing are different widths (one fat one and one skinny one).

Somethings clearly not right with the tool. Tried position every possible way on the housing and no luck. Going to run up to the Autozone near my house and see if they have one of the tools there to try. The one I have is going back.

haven't tried the housing on my vehicle just yet, but the P/N is correct..I was looking through some of the posts on Amazon where I bought the wrench and one guy had the exact same problem. Something about a bad batch of wrenches. They sent him a new one and it worked fine.

Great customer service from Motivx. This was the response I got from them..
It sounds like you got a defective wrench. It's rare, but occasionally during manufacturing the lower portion of the wrench becomes slightly rotated and no longer correctly indexed with the 64mm hex portion above which causes the problem you're describing. I was able to find your order that you placed on Amazon on 7/5/2019, just confirm for me that the shipping address is still good for you and I'll have our warehouse send you a replacement out today for you at no charge. I'm also including a pre-paid return shipping label for you to send the defective wrench back, we would like to inspect it to make sure that's the issue. Just print it out and attach it to the box and drop it in the mail. Let me know on the address and if you have any additional questions. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience. -Motivx Support Team
