Remote start add on to a 2014

Wife wants a remote start for our 2014 4runner. She would like to be able to remote start at work so it will be comfortable in about 10 min.

Currently seeing what I can get at the dealer ship. A little scared to go with aftermarket being programming is involved. Any suggestions on the pros and cons with this or where I need to go?

second accessorides... very easy install. I should've done this install a long time ago...

I installed both "plug and play" Remote Start options, I can't recommend Accessorides enough. The first company I had nothing but problems with, when I switched to Accessorides I have had zero issues. The install is super easy and literally is plugging in 3 sets of plugs. The programming literally takes 30 seconds and there's videos on YouTube on how to do it. The dealership will rip you off and the OEM remote start shuts off when you open the door. The Accessorides kit, you just put your key in, put it in gear and drive off. Can't recommend them enough

It's your money but I'd stay away from the dealer option. It's extremely limited and a royal PITA to use compared to aftermarket options. I'd wasted money on the OEM module as a dealer option at delivery, it died before the vehicle was 3 years old (but I was outside the mileage warranty). Replaced it with a CompuStar Pro T11, expensive but awesome, and had it installed by one of the Certified Pro dealers from their website. Whatever your choice, don't go OEM.

I will also put in a vote for Accessorides. I just installed mine last week, it only took about an hour and I was dinking around with other stuff at the same time. (Moving switches) I'm loving it so far.

I went for the cell phone option. The app seems a bit clunky to me, but it has worked every time.(kind of, keep reading) It will tell you if the doors are locked or unlocked and give you a read out on the battery voltage as well. You can set a pin on the app so no one can mess with the car if you leave your phone someplace. The app could use a few other small improvements, like letting you upload a pic of your own car instead of having to choose something close. (No '11 TE option, so I'm stuff with SR5 or Limited ) It would also be nice if you could adjust the pre-run time from the app, but that currently requires you to send the module back to Accessorides.

My last peeve about the app is the start and shutoff buttons don't say start or shut down. They just have some circular icon arrows that have never been associated with start or stop. It wouldn't kill them to even add the text below them and I could get over it. The lock/unlocked symbols and text are as you would expect...why not the start stop?

The app also hints that you can add 4 switched accessories...like lights etc. However, there is nothing on the Accessorides website for this. Imagine forgetting where you parked and being able to turn on the LED light bar remotely.....can you say airport parking lot after a two week trip? or even a nice security feature for people that have to park in sketchy areas.

One small thing I noticed was when I parked in a home garage for 2 days the cell service was pretty limited if it reads at all. It's 4G service supposedly, however the area I was in didn't have the greatest coverage to begin with. So it could have just been a combination of the house I was at and the area. I was close enough to my T4R that the OEM fob worked fine so in that instance I didn't really need the app.

I use a Clifford DS4XP and hardwired. I’ll be able to add extra functions later down the road if I want to. There’s also a T-harness that could be used to install instead. I hardwired because I didn’t find out about the T-Harness until after the fact. You can pick up the system and the t-harness for a little less than $300. You can do 3x lock to start with factory keyfob but I picked up the two-way remote for mine.

We have the factory remote start on our 2017 ORP. Avoid it.

The factory remote start does work. However, it's expensive and has a very limited range. It's a joke. The distance of your keyfob is the distance to remote start. Why bother? Our previous Jeep had a superb distance keyfob. Toyota remote start not worth the money. Wife had to have it. She's used it twice, one to see if it worked. The distance from fob to vehicle is a bummer.

Personally I have the Compustar with T-harness and love it. OEM remote press lock 3 times to start and use Drone mobile app for unlimited range. No extra keyfobs to have on the key chain.

Another Compustar here. Works great. Never used any other aftermarket brand so nothing to compare to though. But whatever you do dont do the Toyota factory as others have stated.
