Silverwing Hard-shell Rooftop Tent

Has anyone run across this before? I'm not sure if this is a new product but I can't find real world reviews anywhere. A hardshell tent for $2000 sounds like an amazing deal. I just don't like how the ladder doesn't lock into place.

Specs:
-Weight: 154lbs unpacked (not sure what that means) otherwise 170lbs
-Interior space: 86″x51"
-2.3″ HDF mattress with removable cover
-Two interior personal storage pockets for shoes and personal items (one on each end)
-Solar charged LED lantern with fan

Silverwing Clam Shell 86" x 51" Mounted Rooftop 2-person Tent

interesting find. Plus, if you don't like it Costco will take it back. Or if it ends up being junk, they will take it back. Seems to check all the boxes of standard hard shell tent features. Hopefully someone can chime in with experience.

Not a bad deal for a hardshell RTT especially coming from Costco since their return policy is pretty awesome!

Why not try it? Their return policy is great.

I recently had an experience in having Kirkland (Costco's signature brand) inspect the same facility where my company was manufacturing some supplements. I have NEVER seen such insanely high standards for quality control. I thought we were obsessively anal... We have nothing on Kirkland/Costco.

After seeing how anal they were about anything that was attached to their brand, I have a newfound appreciation for their products.

While this isn't a Kirkland product, I know their product vetting team is just as cautious about what they carry.

-- On another note -- We're seeing many more brands join in the RTT competition. Up until recently I was all about saving up for the Autohome Maggiolina. But then Tepui came out with this! A roof top tent that doubles as a roof cargo box? YES PLEASE. I have a Yakima Skybox 21 (i.e. 21 cubic ft) and it's the largest roof cargo box they make. The Tepui Hybox holds even more when closed AND IT'S A TENT! Sign me up!

post back pics if you end up buying this. Looks really nice from the pictures. How long is the install time to mount it on the roof racks on these things?

Sometimes when traveling for work during nice temps I like to camp rather than hotels so this would be a pretty awesome fit for that. I wouldn't want it on there all the time though even if it folds down almost flat.

Will do! Hoping to sell my Tepui softshell in the coming months. Hopefully this option will still be around!

I like it. Good find. Maybe Costco will do a sale on it one day.

"Water resistant tent fabric and zippers"

Is there an optional rain fly?

This is a big step up from the 1986 Subaru GL wagon I used on the Outer Banks beaches for 14 years. That thing would go anywhere in the sand on 185/70-13 tires. Dual range 5 speed, factory skid plate, 3 position manually adjustable rear shocks and armored exhaust. All factory, including the white spoke wheels. The front sub frame finally rusted apart.

Most of these RTT's are made in china and companies just order and have them branded. Check alibaba and you can order most of them there, although ordering just one doesn't make a lot of sense when you factor in shipping and customs broker. This tent looks very similar to some I've seen on that site and at $1699 that's fairly close to what you can order one off alibaba for with shipping, but you get a return policy with Costco so that's a bonus for sure.

Not a dig against this tent at all, just an FYI. When I hear comments about Tepui made this or CVT made that...really they just bought them from China and changed colors and branding, they didn't make anything. This is not the case with every brand, but most.

...Has anyone been in one of these in a good downpour?...my only concern here is the fabric is NOT waterproof....but water-resistant?...can anyone comment on this?

...Went to Costco to see if they had them to look at...but no go...kinda hate to plunk down that much cash on something I can't see myself first?
