Limited smart key and techstream problems

Hey guys! My wife’s purse was stolen, had everything. House keys, car keys, checks, cards EVERYTHING. It’s been awful. Getting mostly everything back.

But on to the reason I am here! Got an OEM key, need to get it programmed. Ordered a techstream program. Running windows 10 pro, (could be the problem) can’t get the software to connect. Says can’t connect to VIM. Any pointers?

Toyota, any idea what cost to have them program is?

Thanks everyone!

I would make sure the cable you are trying to use will work... I bought a couple cheap cables in the past and had nothing but problems.

I would start there first and see if it solves your connection problems.

Why would you say “not to thread jack” and that’s exactly what you did?

Suggestion on testing cable? Thanks

Techstream will not run on anything past XP.

I have my install of techstream on my windows 10 surface pro 4, but running through a virtual machine booting to XP. The driver for the ODB cable and the program are all in one self contained package that works pretty seamlessly.

Google techstream XP VM or something along those lines along with the ODB program name (sorry, can’t recall what it is) and it should pop up with some downloads for you. Sorry I can’t be more precise, I’m on vacation in Japan and on mobile.

The problem is probably trying to run it on a Surface.
I’m running it fine on Windows 10 Home 64 bit on two different laptops.
No virtual machine stuff. I guess it used to be XP only.

I've been running it fine on Windows 7 using a VM on Macintosh laptop. The software is just quirky, but once you know the tricks it works just fine.

There are quite a few threads on how to get it running....here is what I did and that post has links to other techstream threads,
