Hey ya'll. If you don't already know, there's a really cheap and nice company in China that makes stuff like the TRD pro grille and blackout letters for the 4Runners. It's a great company but they're a little lacking on instructions, and as someone who struggled to put these lights in correctly, I've made this hopefully useful "guide"
I don't have any pics of the inprogess but I have finished pics and those should be enough.
Here I'm just going to talk about the Marker Lights themselves
So assuming you already put in the TRD grille, or you're just installing these with the base model grille, the first thing you're gonna wanna do is some modifications to the wires themselves.
This is the part that I had to do some thinking about, being quite a novice myself at car modifications
So in the kit, you should get a fuse holder. The kit has 3 marker lights, a looooong wire that connects those three, and the fuse holder. What you're gonna wanna do is on the end of the long wire where the positive and negative wires stick out: they stick out maybe 2 inches and then there's a black cover for the rest of the distance. You're gonna peel back that black insulation wire about 12 inches. This is because the negative wire is going to have to be grounded on the ground wire near the battery, and the positive wire has to go behind the firewall.
Ok, you've peeled back the cover. Now, there is a bolt that holds in the ground wire on the driver side wheel well, you need to loosen that. Here is a little piece of information that is very important. On the bolt, there is a washer and then behind that washer there is the round piece of metal (the ground). You need to strip your negative (black wire) back about half an inch. The now stripped wire goes BEHIND the washer so it makes contact with the ground metal itself. Whew, that was a lot to process, hopefully this pic will help you out.
Alright, now your black wire is grounded. Here's a tricky part. The positive wire goes into that blue crimp you'll see coming out of the fuse holder. You need to strip the red wire about half an inch so there's good contact. Now, push the red wire into the hole inside of the blue crimp, and push it as far as it can go, though not forcefully. Once that's done, you could crimp it, but I taped mine at first just to test it out.
Here is the most annoying part: the firewall seal. Ugh it gives me shivers just thinking about it. So that fuse holder, the oddly shaped black box has to go through two layers of incredibly strong rubber. Just poke a hole in it and really squeeze it through, you might have to go back and forth between inside the car and outside in the engine bay.
And here is the final and possibly the most important part of this whole process. The black box that you now have hanging in the foot well (the fuse box) has two slots on it. In the kit you will receive a 5 and 15 fuse I believe (someone correct me if I am wrong) but for simplicity I am going to use the colors they have. So bear with me on this description: The fuse holder has two slots, and one slot is closer to the silver fuse connector that sticks out. Place the RED fuse in the slot closes to the connector, and place the brown fuse in the remaining slot. Word of warning, I placed mine like this as a complete guess, there were no marking for which went where. I am only instructing you to place your like this because it worked for me and no fuses blew out.
Ok, now you have the extra fuses installed. Now you may ask, where do I plug the entire thing in. Well I saw a couple diagrams from similar kits. Once you take the cover off of the fuse box, there is a diagram that shows a number (or type) of fuse that is plugged in. On the diagram there are two slots labeled "10A" and directly above those slots, there are two empty slots. I placed my fuse holder in the empty slot right above 10A and it works fine for me, but please correct me if I am wrong.
And viola, double check to make sure all connections are secure, bolts are secure, and you should be good to go. Give that ignition a turn!
Cheers ya'll and have fun!
