Im hoping that with break in, that boaty sound becomes more aggressive. Right now it's that funky in between type sound. Not stock quiet but not "aftermarket borla" type sound.

Come Mon, I'm actually going to see if the dealer tossed my old stock pipe yet. Might just want to keep it in the garage to be safe if this doesn't grow on me
I agree with some of this. In the 2020 4Runner thread I initially said that I did not like the sound of the exhaust during hard acceleration, but I'm going to change my opinion after another day of driving around.

During hard accelerations, the beautiful sound of the 4.0 liter is louder than the exhaust, so I personally like that.

But like JPK_NJ said, during gradual acceleration the sound resonates throughout the cabin, which is a half-assed exhaust sound that ends up being an annoying "drone" to me. In the 2020 4Runner thread I compared it to the 6.4 Hemi truck engine making the MDS drone sound that every Ram owner hates.

Not only do they resonate through the cabin, these half-assed exhaust droning sounds feel like they resonate through my head and body.

The sound from inside as the driver and owner is no where close to the sound when standing outside next to it.

Coming from a big truck I got spoiled on the sound of V8's and more badass exhausts. I'll have to go check out some videos on the Gibsons.

For my explanation why I think it sucks see above

Same thing I found. Kinda hard to record with cell phone. not sure if go pro would be better but don't have one.

It’s ok seemed like a good compromise between the loud magnaflow and quiet Borla that some members have installed. I’ll just throw the magnaflow on and see how loud it is. I have MT tires on it already so it can get any worst.

The initial reviews on the other thread about the 2020 TRD Pro's doesn't sound positive so far. The first couple TRD Pro purchases have been made and they also talked about that annoying drone coming through the cabin, and it seems very noticeable. Kinda of a bummer hearing that. Was definitely going this direction.

Sound clip

Here’s a sound clip from my morning commute. I accelerated from a stop light and got up to maybe 45 or 50. My commute is short and I don’t get on the freeway.

Phone was near my right shoulder (I was holding it up). Windows were up because it was drizzling. Wear headphones and turn the volume up. Otherwise, You won’t hear the exhaust/sound.

I waited for a factory solution because I didn’t want to deal with fitment issues and was glad to see TRD released the exhaust. I have never swapped out for after-market exhaust on a V6 and the only one I had ever done was a MF on the H2, which I hated due to the in-cabin drone and the countless alarms I set off inside a parking structure, but that was some 14 years ago.

I really didn’t expect too much on a V6 and the jury is still out simply because I have experienced droning at steady highway cruising speed - the very thing I hope to avoid by going with a factory unit; it is not horrible but it is there, and I would imagine it could get pretty annoying had I driven her longer. Anyone telling you that it will settle in is only because he/she wants to believe it will. If it drones when newly installed, it’s going to drone, just a matter of how one tolerates it, or not.

I installed the TRD exhaust on my daughter’s ’18 last Friday and essentially handed it back to her after burning off the residue. First off, packaging was good, the stainless material used was very robust, and everything lined up & fitted well, so no problem there. All gaskets sealed and no leak, It actually sounded mild & decent @ idle.

Just for reference, I DD a M2 6MT with stock exhaust (not the M Performance one), before that an all stock IS-F. Both with great sounding factory exhaust and I clearly wasn’t looking for similar experience from the 4R fitted with the TRD exhaust.

I will need to get into the 4R this weekend for a longer drive and see if I feel differently. Still have the stock unit sitting in my garage just in case. I am actually surprised that Toyota let this one out on a production vehicle, I would imagine some TRDP owners will not be happy with this.

43 second sound clip

Went to Starbucks for lunch.

Here’s another sound clip of how I typically drive (like an old man).

Accelerated from a stop light and ended the clip around 50mph.

I think it sounds best if you wear headphones and listen to it about 60%.

Different strokes for different folks.. I hated the stock exhaust on my ISF and replaced it with a Borla asap. WAY too quiet for a sports sedan.

Doesnt seem too bad. A little throaty.

Stock intake? Trd intake? Other?

I just installed a trd intake and was surprised it's a bit louder. Trd exhaust comes tomorrow so will be interested what the end outcome is.

Completely stock. Just picked up the 2020 TRDP a few days ago (Monday night).

Can't speak for others but mine is fine. It has a very mild exhaust sound but wouldn't call it drone. Want drone, get aftermarket bolt on. Buddy spent 6 hundred on his and after he heard mine ordered the trd

Curious if the drone goes away over a few hundred miles as the exhaust breaks in and coats with carbon?

This usually happens in other exhausts, but it mellows sound. Not sure it would get rid of a drone completely =/
