Just installed AVS Aeroskin on Magnetic Gray - pics included

Thought I'd post what the AVS Aeroskin looks like on a magnetic gray.

I didn't want the factory or AVS bugshield. Wanted to try something different.

I like it, not sure if it will function exactly like a typical bug reflector as it appears to match the angle of the leading edg of the hood. Definitely a cleaner look.

Looks good, how was the install?

Does it come off to let you clean underneath? I'd imagine sand and dust would get under there at some point.

I'm not a bug deflector fan, never have been, but I kind of like that. In the first picture I had to look for about 10 seconds to see it (not knowing what aeroskin was), which is a big plus for me.

My biggest complaint I have had so far with my 4runner is the front edge of the hood getting all beat up. I read that the bug shields don't really help with the design of the 4runner (you still get your windshield splattered with bugs) so I just wanted something that covered the front edge up.

I thought about the clear bra and wasn't too crazy about it. Then I saw pics of a member's 4runner (RIDE) and really liked the look of the Aeroskin.

It is basically held on by 3m tape and that's it. The install was really easy. I wiped down the edge with alcohol wipes that were provided and then lined up the aeroskin on the hood. What was really helpful is I lined up the edge of the 3m tape to the edge of the hood. That seemed like it was a perfect fit and I went with that. I even brought out the tape measure to make sure the gaps were perfect.

You just peel back a couple of inches of the 3m tape and work one line at a time from the center to each edge.

If you take your time and line it up correctly, it turns out really nice. Might have taken me 15 minutes at the most.

Cost about $61 shipped online.

Since it is outlined with 3m tape, I am not too worried about mud or dirt getting under the aeroskin. There were a couple of small gaps on the top where the hood lines started, but the gaps were on the bottom too. Enough for the water and dirt to flow through. I'm guessing a water hose would clean out these gaps very easily.

Maybe RIDE is reading this thread and I know he has been offroading and has experienced the mud and sand and could comment on how it's been holding up.

If anyone is looking for an alternative way to keeping the hood and front end clean, I just had a clear bra installed on my 2011. It was done by the dealer by a company called roadblock. Here is a website explaining the thing. Invisible Mask - Clear Bra Automotive Paint Protection, 3M Scotchgard, Carbon Fiber 3M Films

I'll post pics if anyone is interested. My wife has the car right this moment.

I don't see how people know if a bug shield works or not since plenty of bugs are windshield height when you hit them;I just like the protection they give the leading edge of the hood and I do like them a bit taller for more hood protection plus I have a scoop that likes rocks too.

The Aeroskin looks good but could cover the hood a bit higher up since that edge curve of the hood is still exposed.

Dan I'd like to see some pictures if possible, I have the Shoreline Blue LE and would love some extra protection for the hood.

Anyone try the highlight kit for 40 bucks so solve the cloudy headlight issue ???? Seems like it comes with slot of promises/warranty.

I had the same issue when I looked up one for my 2011. I had to put in 2010 4runner and it worked.

I have the same shield but looks like yours does not have the small AVS emblem on it. Did you take it off, if so how did you do it without scratching the bugshield? Thanks.
