New Falken Wildpeak to debut on TRD PRO?
Hi Guys,
I was trying to figure out what tires are likely to come on the Trd Pro 4runner. In some pics it looks like the 4runner is running a set of dunlops (the pic showing the front shock), but in other pictures like the one attached as well as those from the Chicago auto show it looks like the tires are Falken wild peaks, but with new "wavy" grooves cut horizontally across the tread face. I also noticed the Trd Pro Tundra with these.
Anyone here know the deal with these or any more info on what tire will probably ship with the Trd Pro? I tried googling for news on a new Wildpeak A/T being in development but with no luck. I wonder if these are new Wildpeaks and if they are going to debut with the TRD Pro....?

Nope, just standard Wild Peaks that have been grooved with a more aggressive pattern. If you look at the sponsored Falken Jeep you'll see the same thing.

Are these tires commercially available? Are they supposed to be "better" in the rough stuff?

Can't find pictures of the referenced sponsored jeep. It doesn't make sense to me that they would add grooves to their AT tire to make it more aggressive if they aren't going to sell the tire. I mean, they have a new MT tire out so if toyota or another off road build was being sponsored I would think they would use those tires.

The OP seems interested in buying these tires, not the Pro. I am curious about them too and like a dedicated post. Have some coffee and relax.

Better than what? And what do you consider rough stuff? Maybe it's just the picture, but these don't look like that great a tire for off road to me. The treads don't look very deep at all. I'd say for AT tires you'd be better off looking at Duratracs, BFG AT KOs, or something like that.

I agree they don't look like great off road tires but, was just curious if those extra grooves were intended to improve the regular A/T's off road performance. The regular wild peak doesn't look like much of an A/T to me when i compare to a bfg A/T. But these look (and that doesn't necessarily mean anything) like a more aggressive tire than the regular wildpeak.

It looks as if they are just custom grooved Falks. I'm not very impressed with the regular wild peaks. The tread is only grooved/siped half way down. We ran a couple sets of these at work and they wear fast. Once you wear through that they are like slicks. I sure hope Toyota puts a "real" AT on these trucks.

Yea....
You're probably right.....
The 2+ pages that search pulled probably won't cover what you're looking for...
Post away.....

I think those grooves would decrease the tread life if you're rock crawling. They'd likely cause the tread blocks to tear a lot faster than if they were solid. I have zero experience with off roading in the sand though, so I don't know if those would help for that.

So is there a thread about the Wildpeak M/T's? The search comes up empty.
