Cool

Many people have had good results with these mounts, I tried this route/mounts but it didn't work out for me, even tried different mics and adjusted the mic position but everybody I talked to via bluetooth say the sound quality was awful. These aftermarket mics are designed to be completely exposed so they pickup the sound better. After a lot of research online I stumbled across a Tacoma forum and a solution for the ugly and cheap mic that came with my Kenwood head unit.

After Market Head Unit - Mic in Factory Location | Page 2 | Tacoma World

There's a small company called Enfigcarstereo, they make all sorts of custom mics for many different cars, I contacted them and explained my issues with the aftermarket head unit mic and how I would like to use the oem location for a new mic. Christian (owner) went ahead and ordered a 5th gen 4runner overhead console so he could measure and make a custom mic. Long story short, I installed the mic and is WAY BETTER than OEM, sound quality is perfect!! Well worth the money.

The tacoma thread has all the info about the mic so no need for me to post photos etc.

So mic for the Tacoma fits our 4Runners?

The Mic for the "Tacoma" is actually for the 5th Gen 4Runner. I've ordered and installed it on my 2016 Trail and it fits perfectly on the OEM location, plenty of extra cable to route it on the side pillar and behind the dash, and has a 3.5mm jack.

To clarify, the model you got was the Enfig MIC-TOY1 that fits in our 4Runners? Will probably try this 3d printed bracket first but nice to know there is an alternative.

Correct, the MIC-TOY1 is for the 4Runner.

When I ask for a quote for printing, I am asked if the dimensions are in inches or metric. I'm sorry for my ignorance but which measurement is it?

Thank you,

Nick

Hi fellow T4r'ers...

Here is a design I made for the Alpine mic. I still need to do a test fit with everything once I drop the overhead console.

5th Gen 4Runner Alpine Microphone Mount by jasonjason - Thingiverse

It's a remix of KPTexans version, but meant for the Alpine Mic. From what I understand Alpine only offers 1 mic only. I designed this one since I'm going with the Alpine ILX-F309 in my 2015 4runner Limited.

note that the Alpine mic measures 14mm +/- 1mm in diameter. Oddly the +/- is because the mic is not perfectly round. Nor is is oval... It's just not perfectly circular.

--- Update 11:30pm April 27, 2021 ---

A friend brought over his Alpine mic, he too is about to install an ILX-F309 into his 4runner. His Alpine mic diameter measured between 14.05mm to 14.12mm in OD, where as my measured between 13.85mm to 14.01mm in OD.

Needless to say v1 of the STL file originally that was in the Thingiverse link isn't going to work. I've modified the solid model to 14.15mm ID, I've also increased the wall thickness that holds the mic to 3mm thick, as the original 1.5mm wall thickness was too thin and cracked easily.

OK. I redesigned the mount 1 more time. The 1st two tries were no good.

here is a good useable version that I consider done and done.
