My truck is exactly 2 years old now. For me it comes and goes, seems to be ambient air pressure or temps that make these stock Dunlops oscillate the front end at the one magical speed. I keep mine at 32.5 psi and rarely feel it. When the truck is loaded with gear and people it rarely occurs in my case too. I'll replace the stock tires next year (only 25000 kilometres on it so far). I've had the diff bearing groan last two winters too, I'll probably have the ECS bearing tapped in at my fav off road shop once I'm out of warranty I don't want the dealer tearing into it or throwing parts at it like an entire differential assembly, its just fine. I'm more aggravated by the sunroof rattle at full tilt.

So I guess what I'm saying is that I can live with these two minor annoyances yeah...

Thanks for your response. Makes me feel better. I am new to the 4R and this whole wobble issue has me worried. I don't want to run into the same issue if its something that makes the 4R feel unstable and a miserable drive. I wish I had a good independent shop near me to work on mine.

For me, it is certainly miserable to drive at highway speed when it is happening. It sends the high frequency vibrations up your entire arms. I wouldn't say that it makes me feel unsafe though.

And yes the Michelin Defenders did help in my case. Not completely but mostly.

Yes, it is still present. I bought the Michelin Defenders to try to remedy the situation when it first began. Back when everyone thought it was a tire issue. While the road noise was better than OEM Dunlop’s the vibration and front end wobble did not get better at all and it still present even after over 1,000 mile “break in” period. No change.

Unfortunately @pumacat24 it takes effort to see the glass 1/2 full instead of empty! I only look at my beer glass at 1/2 empty! I find it easier to use the Abe Lincoln approach of using honey instead of gall, however, by nature we see the negatives. On some occasions it takes a lot of effort to maintain positivity, however, when we do, we won't need to see the doctor for physical ailments or die too young.

Donuts will go a long way! When you need something next time, guess who they will put in front of the line, give you priority service or do something no charge! Even if Toyota says no way, then I'd bet Dave Edwards will make it right! They will remember you as the kind person who was handed a bad runner but you handled it with dignity towards all! Believe me, I have scraped my knees on way too many times and on occasion I still mess up!

I forgot, about 2 years ago on my former 2011 SR5, the driver's seat heater burned up and seared the foam seat. I had one hot posterior on that long ride. My persistence researching SE Regional Toyota and they covered it out of warranty. As a result, I was able to get the Mid-Atlantic Region to do the same. How many others did that help?

Ya, for sure, sometimes legal advice is necessary, and it is important to know the law as @cb1111 says, but forcing the issue legally is always a last resort.

I love following this thread, my favorite read here! Keep us posted! Maybe you're going to be the one to get to the bottom of whats causing this vibration issue! Might be a good discussion to have with Dave at some point!

Looking at a full sized truck now (not replacing my runner) and almost every one of the 1/2 tons has a series of problems
Ford its the EcoBoost with TB stalling etc.
New Ram its all sorts of Electronic bugs.

I'd be looking at the Tundra but 13mpg is pretty terrible.

Worst case scenario, the owner of my dealership has already promised me that he would get me out of my car if Toyota couldn’t fix it. I know he will help me out.
OP, I don't recall seeing this anyplace in the thread. If I missed it I apologize in advance.
But I'm curious...of all the times you have been without your T4R, because they were working on it, testing, etc. did they not provide you with a loaner?

The local dealer certainly has the ability to do that so you at least have something to drive, even if it isn't the vehicle you're making the payment on. If they didn't at least do that, I don't think they are taking very good care of you. Especially after multiple returns for service on the same issue. Small things like washing it and filling the tank every time they returned it to you would also go a long ways.

I know I've gotten these things for a whole lot less of an issue than you are having.

Making a 500-600 monthly payment on something you don't even have in your possession would be painful. And how about that XM radio service you're paying for but can't listen to while they have your truck?

Good points @nglayton . I hadn’t thought about the XM angle. That’s why I suggested to gently ask for a new one that had more options and/or next model up.

My dealership is taking care of me.

They eventually gave me a Corolla to drive, but not in the beginning.

I went 22 days in total without my car.

I have it now and can drive it until they make a formal decision for replacement.

I let the XM run out of the free trial bc it sounds “tinny” to me so I’m not paying for it. Haha

Making the payments suck when you haven’t had your car, but I should be credited for everything I’m paying unpin replacement. At least I hope so.

A new truck from Japan should run as such - you bought a 4runner for a reason and got a don lemon - dont fix it just replace. Going piece by piece on what I assume is a daily driver will be bottomless. Get into some new wheels!

I will post a full update early next week. I’ve decided to go the repurchase route instead of replacement so I can choose my own new 4Runner.

Going to test drive a couple of Pros tomorrow and hope to have an offer from Toyota early next week. I will still lose money, but oh well, hopefully I don’t lose too much.

Updates:

- Steering is still vibrating as always
- Since I picked it up there is some new strange rubbing sound when turn slightly left.

- Toyota is officially repurchasing my car.
- Everyone has been great even though I'm still going to be losing a good bit of money
- I'm content and received amazing help from my Regional Toyota Rep... I'm still just ready for this to be over.
- Now have to wait for a 3rd party company to contact me within the next week or two (hopefully less!) to surrender my car and had me over my check.

- Test drove 6 4Runners, 2 ORP and 4 Pros until I finally found the "one".

- Hoping to seal the deal with that dealer tomorrow.

- Will post a pic of the new ride once available.

Hopefully the dealer takes care of you and gives you a new Pro at invoice minus rebates. That’d make this easier to swallow I imagine... and you’ll never lose much in depreciation on a Pro! Can you negotiate the repurchase price at all? Seems like you’ve been more than patient and kind and are letting them off of a potentially branded “lemon” title for your 4R. That’s gotta be worth something. Then again, I guess there’s no guarantee you’d prevail in a lemon law appeal either. Been interesting to follow along. Can’t wait to hear about your new ride!
