Screw them. Capitalism is a wonderful thing. Competition is a wonderful thing. I hope Toyota is sweating bullets over loss of market share the new JL and future Bronco is creating. Let's face it, they havent done much but collect checks for 9 years now. Just change a color and slap some new styled off road stickers on the frame, selling them for close to or at 50k. Bring on the competition.

And that just happened in the last year. The Jeep was dated as is the 4Runner. It will get updates soon as well. Hard to compare a 1 year newly redesigned vehicle to a 9 year old design.

All modern vehicles are fairly reliable nowadays if you don’t get a lemon. Was it also $40k like a regular 4Runner? Oh wait the Rubicon is $60k. You can’t compare vehicles that are nowhere close to the same price range and act like all its extra features make it the superior option. Might as well compare a Tacoma to the raptor. High end jeeps are nice, but not a real 4Runner competitor.

How much is a trd pro 4runner?? 45-50k??? That's insane!. My new FULLY LOADED JL was 55k. We arent even taking into account the features most 4runner owners add to their rig to get it somewhere close in capability to a stock rubi. Shit just getting the lift and 33s is a ~5k mod.

My comparison was top end JL vs top end 4runner.
I said Trd pro in my quote. The comparison is a joke. The 4runner is an embarrassment at the price Toyota is charging. Its not just the 4runner Toyota does this with. I just read an article showing the Trd Pro Tundra is more expensive than a Raptor by 600.00!

My point in all this was all the fan boys should love the competition because it forces Toyota out of the rut they have been in for the last 9 years. The Bronco and JL will absolutely force Toyota to put out a better 4runner. So quit hating on Jeeps, they have the superior product currently which is GOOD for Toyota fans waiting for the new 6th gen 4runner.
Competition keeps a company honest and innovative. I hope the Bronco is insanely good and that the JL gets even better with small tweaks. I want a strong 4x4 segment because the consumer wins.

FCA makes money on the sales, repairs and more repairs. While the JL may be competent and more "modern", it isn't nearly as bulletproof as the Toyota 4R/LC or Lexus GX/LX.

Which car would you rather have in the middle of nowhere?

Superior in off-roading maybe but not even close to reliability. I will never buy anything from fiat/Chrysler again after every one had electrical and mechanical issues.

The 4Runner is also better on regular roads than a Jeep and better on the highway. It’s overall a better overlander.

For 50k? 2016 Land Cruiser. To your point I love the LC power and reliability.

If it was between my wife's Rubi and a trd 4runner? Rubi. We dont take my 4runner on trips. We take her Jeep.

I agree with this. I will say that the JL is much better on the road than the JK was. I think this gap has closed some. However the 4runner having more room is a big plus for the overlander crowd.

I had a 2013 JK 2 door with LS rear, 35s, loaded. Paid about $38,000 for it back then. I drove it a lot, sold it when it had about 80,000 miles on the clock. I do t remember having any real issues mechanically at all. Loved taking the top and doors off and cursing and it was a beast in the snow. The 4R is better on the road, largely due to the softer suspension. Around these parts, for my kind of driving, lockers aren’t a big deal. A good limited slip or electronic traction control like A Trac among with good winter tires are everything I need and more for snow covered roads and even deep snow. That said, unless Toyota engineers a truck from the ground up to really compete head to head with a Rubicon, a 4R isnt going to be able to hang with the JL in severe off road situations without a lot of mods. Both are capable of more than most owners will ever do with them. It’s too bad that Toyota retired the FJ. The 6 speed manual with FT 4WD, factory rear locker, crawl control and A trac along with stock 35” tires and other goodies was something that could go head to head with the JLRU. And with the full time 4WD system, it was a more compelling daily driver for someone like me who drives a lot in the snow.

The JK was a joke on the highway in stock format and was downright scary in bad weather at night on a freeway.

The JL is far better but ergonomics still aren't great.

Well the 4 Runner went back to the Dealer today ir was pulling to the right. they put air in the tires and now to get the 4 Runner to drive straight the steering wheel is turned to the right. It was straight for the trip from the Dealer to my job, all road miles. And even then the second you let go of the steering wheel the wheel wants to go to the right. on the drive home the steering wheel is turned to the right just to keep it on the road and the vibration is back at 60. So I will take it back for my weekly visit on Thursday and let them run their mouth to me about everything is fixed and waste 2 more days at the dealer. I would love to actually have this thing on a friday without taking it to the dealer. I am now out of options. I give up. The service manager actually told me to buy new wheels and tires and try them to see if the vibrations will stop, I laughed at him and said I shouldn't have to spend more money to get a 6 month old car to drive normal.

I wish it was that easy. If we had money to spend on one I would have gotten one in March after a month of the radio issue.

Just out of curiosity, and the process of elimination, did they ever do a Yaw rate, acceleration sensor and a steering angle sensor calibration?
