Any pics? I've read quite a few posts about these overlays or coverlays, as some call them, but I have yet to see any close up pics to see how they look. I am particularly curious to see how close they fit the the body and whether or not there are any gaps.

Hi, just wanted ask your opinion on temperature for applying the overlays. I installed a set that I found online for about $60 (side emblems only) and temp here was in 55-60 degree range. Cleaned before install with 3M adhesive remover. “TRD” and “Road” emblems both firmly attaches but on both sides the “Off” emblems did not stick on left ends of each emblem. I believe they must have been slightly warped. Yesterday I decided to just remove them all and stay with the silver originals but damn if I could get the “Road” emblems off. Afraid that if using heat the entire emblem would come off. So I ordered a new set from Toyota, but unfortunately could not get only side emblems. Had to order entire set for $150. Not sure now whether to wait until summer to put them on, or maybe just warm up the overlays before applying. No plans on using the Front/Rear Toyota logos or the “4Runner” letter emblems. Also have the removed emblems without adhesive. Anyone interested in these, let me know. Thom |

I would hold off till warmer weather. As bad as I want to put mine on right now i’m waiting for a couple of warm days. Figured I do it right the first time. However, i’m sure it can be done with a heat gun.

Temperatures vary from the 30's to the 60's here in S. Missouri. I bought a cheap Harbor Freight heat gun for $10.
1500 Watt Dual Temperature Heat Gun Ordering a set of overlays from Charlie's link. Will let you guys know how it goes. My plan is to warm the lettering on the truck then stick on the overlays and warm it all again. |

How are the blackout overlays holding up?
A few questions for people with real world experience with blackout emblems.
1) How are your blackout emblems/overlays holding up? 2) Has anyone gone through cold winters, hot summers and car washes with them? 3) Did you buy OEM or after market? 4) If aftermarket what brand? 5) Any experience with the Taco Twonz, Runnin 4 Tacos brand? 6) Are factory blacked out emblems just black overlay covering chrome? My wife bought a 2020 TRD Offroad Premium with factory blacked out emblems/badging. I assumed the OEM black badging was a solid piece of solid black plastic but it sounds like even the factory blacked out emblems/badges are covered with an overlay? Thanks for the insight. |
I went for the Running for Taco's overlays for my Off Road.
They go right over the factory lettering / emblems and use a double stick tape. If I was really paranoid, I'd have put some superglue on the underside. I didn't and have no complaints. They are fine in Car Washes to include using a pressure sprayer at the local DIY car wash. Last I checked the Off Road overlays were out of stock. Haven't looked today. I like em. Makes the 4Runner look even tougher. |

So I wanna take out my TRD PRO emblems and add TRD OFF ROAD emblems but paint them black instead of putting overlays before sticking them on the pillars.. Does anyone have the dimensions/measurements where to put them on the pillars ? I can't find anything on the internet.
