4Runner vs. 200 series -help!

OK friends... maybe looking soon and need your help... this should be fun!

2019 T4R Limited Nightshade 0 miles
$45,000 new no mileage and better loan rate

Vs.

2016 Landcruiser with 60k miles and
Rims/tires upgraded, possible lift? (not wheeled)
$49,000

Which would you pick and why? Mostly snow use, think overland but not heavy wheeling just mountain climbing, and long trips across country with the dual climate control on. Is the Land cruiser a steal if all checks out ok? Or would you go low miles and lighter on its feet? Not easy!

Let's see if we can keep the 'neither of these' comments to a minimum today, shall we?

Thanks!

With current gas prices - I'd probably go for the LC200. It's a better highway cruiser. The GX460 could be something in between the two in terms of having a V8 and luxury, but not quite as bad of mpg as the LC200.

Thanks that's great feedback! I also have a GX470 non Nav I'm looking at TBH, all cash. But that's for another debate

Landcruiser without batting an eye. KDSS > XReas, better “cruiser”, same safety systems that are now in the 2020 4runner, V8 power for mountain passes. If gas were $4 a gallon there could be a discussion, at $1 a gallon...none. Plus it has a larger fuel tank so driving range between fill ups should be about the same. Another thing to consider is resale. With the new Landcruiser scheduled to launch within the next 2 years you will have the last Of the V8’s, which may help hold value even more than they already do. 4runners hold their value but they are a dime a dozen nowadays.

Thanks good thought, and yes, actually the larger gas tank has always been a selling point for me too

Yes, and would have considered the 2020 nightshade but not a fan of the way they integrated the safety systems on the 4R... doesn't seem integrated.

That's a really good price on that LC.

If it's legit and it's not f'ed up, buy that.

LC every time.

The 4runner is a great vehicle, but its still "built to a price point", whereas the LC is built to a quality standard. The LC is a higher quality vehicle in every regard. Thats why they're 90k new vs 40k.

I traded my paid off 2017 Mustang GT for my 4Runner TRD Off Road because I couldn't find a cheap/good enough 100 series to buy cash, or a 200 series to trade for. That doesn't keep me from eyeballing every 100/200 series I see.

You can't go wrong with either, but you'll certainly be less wrong in the Land Cruiser for what you want to do.

If it's a well cared for LC then 60k miles means nothing. I'd honestly rather have the 200.

You all seem to be of the same mind as me...
The 4R is local, the LC is not. There are some unanswered questions about the true condition of the LC of course, you never know until you see it.
I also have always been 'browsing' the LC lists over the years and while this one adds about 5k-9k to the price tag, depending on needs, it puts it in close range.
I know cost of ownership may be slightly more once I start modding, etc but seemed like it may be worth looking into.

Is there an area where the 4R would out perform? Rock Crawling or ??

I'd say the 4Runner is better off road on paper with its shorter wheelbase and available factory rear locker. The 200 series is still extremely capable off road, but the Land Cruiser (at least the US version) definitely peaked in the off road department back with the early 80 series with its solid axles and available factory triple lockers.

I’ll go with the 4Runner. In my opinion.

1. Gas will not the cheap forever
2. Both car will go 200k
3. Wear and tear will be the same both
4. Honestly, do you plan to drive it till the wheels fall off? If yes get the lc. For me I rather get new ride after 200k.
