Looking for a little help and maybe a direction to look with some new clunks/creaks I've been hearing with the 4Runner. It is definitely coming from the driver side, and appears to be somewhere in the front end.
I have a baby on the way this Sunday and am wanting to get this taken care of ASAP. My issue is I work every day except for Friday, so while it could be something simple that I'm planning on going over, I'd like some other possibilities to look at in case they are them.
For some current specs on my setup.
2017 - 60,000 miles
Total Chaos UCA
King 2.5 Extended Travel Shocks
Stock LCA
No Sway Bar
31M Battery w/ Pelfrey Tray
That's the only things I feel are important to note.
The battery I haven't felt any extra shaking nor noticed anything, but I have heard the 31M's with the Pelfrey cage can cause cracking on the inner sheet metal. Not sure if that's what it sounds like, but possibly could be it?
The UCA was greased roughly 1,000 miles ago. Bushings then and currently look fine (I loosened the bolt before greasing). The ball joint more than likely needs to be lubed up which I will be taking care of Friday, but with that said I've never heard it make that kind of noise when dirty.
LCA's look good. Recently had it aligned and was told they still look fine and nothing to worry about.
The shocks have roughly 30,000 miles on them, but still feel great when driving. Do they make these noises when they need rebuilt? That would be something I could be overlooking.
The sway bar has been off for awhile, but while I've read the tierods go out, they appear to be in good shape and nothing wrong.
Because of the recent alignment I decided to check the torque on everything in case something wasn't torqued to spec and came loose. Everything was correct and not out of spec.
My guess right now is it could be one of the skids. I know my OEM black steel skid is bent pretty good from wheeling trips, but nothing new has hit them so not sure if changed or something has happened. My TRD skid is also on, perhaps they are contacting each other somewhere.
My CV axle on the driver side was leaking so I had that fixed as well as put in the ECGS bushing. CV I was told looks good as well. No binding or anything.
Is there anything I could be over looking? Should be thinking about checking? Could this be a steering rack issue (I haven't noticed any issues with steering, or anything else).
Interesting. I have the same exact issue. Also around 60k miles on my '15. Recently lifted on bilstein 5160/6112 with new tires and got alignment. Issue started after that. I have RCI skids and thought that front stock piece might be rubbing but not so sure. My sound seems to be coming from right behind the pedals somewhere.
It could be any number of things. I would try to be a methodical as possible. Front to back. Top to bottom. Test every component for loose nuts, bolts, missing or damaged parts. Put your hands on everything and try to manipulate them (I usually use a pry bar.). Then put it up on stands and do it all again.
Sounds like your on top of it. Could be hard to trace. One of those situations where those sound sensor kits would come in handy.
I agree with Halflife. Welcome to the club. I have been chasing a low speed squeak on the driver side for 40k miles and a clunk in the steering for the last 10k or so. All part of it I guess.

Check to make sure there is grease in your CV Joint. Ends up that I didnt have it done in mine properly and it developed two days ago after 10k miles. Just a thought....

You may be having a needle bearing issue. May want to look into the symptoms and see if that's it. Typically you have clunk noises as well as some steering wheel shake.

Can I get the shirt in red to match the 4R?

That's definitely the plan, just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be overlooking anything that I should be checking out. Have to love the everlasting search for the noise.

Tell me about it. I've had some noises here and there that I've been able to figure out. A few I haven't, but sounds like nothing serious. Granted that'll be the one that kills me probably.

Same issue here. Brand new 2019 ORP, just lifted Bilstein 5100s in front with SPC UCA’s. Super slight clunk right behind pedals in wheel well. I’ll post back if I get it figured out.
Went ahead and did some stuff considering my day got all out of wack due to some unforeseen things.
Cleaned out the UCA and lubed it up. Also noticed my skid was a little loose so tightened all of that down.
Haven't heard the noise after roughly 20min of driving (I drove a good 10+ with it off and never heard it). That's with various stop and goes, speed bumps, turns, etc. I'm thinking it was the skid plate, as when I shook it left to right it was making an identical noise.

I also had a squeak that was driving me crazy. Mine was caused by the thin piece of plastic protection behind the front wheel in the wheel well. I think it's meant to keep dirt out of the suspension. Held on by those plastic clips, which come loose over time and squeak when there's any sort of wind/air flow.

That is the common issue and the first thing I looked at thanks to this forum.
Unfortunately it was not the problem. My squeak is sub 8mph that will increase from 1 mph - about 8 mph. Squeaking faster as the speed goes up. Think mattress squeak, increasing in speed as... well you know. That's exactly how it sounds, lol.
oh, and of course it won't do it when I take it in for the tech to drive.
