The Lasfits are REALLY bright, they're actually the same Lumen rating as these Meso pods

Puddle Light Review

I got my MESO puddle lights and installed them tonight. Here’s a few of my findings.

The Good:
1. Installation is pretty straightforward, especially if you’ve ever previously opened up the mirrors to install LEDs. If not here are some instructions, see post 20:
2014 Side Mirror Bulb Access
2. The VLED circular LED array and wiring assembly is very good quality. There’s plenty of room inside the mirror to tuck the wiring into place.
3. The light output is impressive. I’m hoping the reliability is good and they have a long life.

The Bad:
1. There are no instructions. I would expect something since this is not a universal product, it is targeted for the specific 5th Gen 4R. It can’t be that hard to put together an instruction sheet. But if you’re at all handy you will figure it out.
2. To install the LED array into the housing you will need a 5/64 hex wrench. Not a big deal, but for $100 you’d think it would be included.
3. The plastic housing of the puddle light is not an exact fit into the mirror housing. It’s a little bit larger and thicker so you really have to force it into place and bear down on the screws to get it seated. Even still it doesn’t perfectly follow the lines of the original and the curved section is slightly bowed and it sits a little higher than the surrounding plastic housing with a small gap on the curved edge.

The Ugly:
1. The plastic color is not an exact match to the Toyota black, it’s kind of a gray-black. But since it sits underneath the mirror out of sight, no big deal.
2. When you install the adapter plug into the OEM mirror light socket it’s a loose fit. Plus the electrical connections are exposed and vulnerable to moisture and corrosion. I wrapped it up with waterproof silicone tape for protection. MESO should really provide a rubber boot or something to enclose this connection. After all, the mirror is not completely water tight. Note that the original light is housed in a sealed gasketed enclosure.

Conclusion:
I like the functionality of the lights. So far they work real well and are very bright. But the form and fit into the Toyota housing is not quite up to the $100 price tag. I’m disappointed the fit isn’t perfect.
However, I’m looking forward to the MESO solution to incorporate their ditch light switch

Good info thanks. I haven't had mine open yet to look. I'm thinking it wouldn't be a big deal to eliminate the plug and socket, solder the wire and heat shrink? Just hold onto the socket incase you ever need it again.
I looked at that post 20, more good info, thanks. it shows the 2 yellow wires feed the puddle light. were yours the same? I'm thinking I could just find them tracing the wires inside the cab and route my switch that way?

Get a small jeweler’s type screwdriver and pick at the bent prong to get it into the proper shape like the other prongs. The brass is pretty flexible so it will probably be ok as long as you don’t bend it back and forth too much. If a prong breaks pick it out and straighten everything else the best you can. You may be able insert the bulb and still make decent contact. Go slow.

I’m haven’t tried this yet but here are some ideas where to access the wires that power the driver side and passenger side mirrors.

Check out post 8 for possible schematic:
Side Mirrors (14+)

Before putting on the cover. I tucked the socket to the very left of the housing. Black wire is from the MESO puddle lights.
