Both the powered sub and amp are under the drivers seat. The amp is a micro sized amp - very small footprint with DSP. I was able to leave the vent under the seat as well. The sub was screwed into place and I used velcro on the Kicker Amp (like @Heavy_GD pro tip). The powered sub is a Kenwood KSC-SW11 - they may have a newer model now.

If you are looking for something to 'fill in' then an under the seat powered sub will do just that. If your intentions are a BIG BOOMING sub then look at a different solution.

I'm not looking for booming. I'm looking to replace a 125 w amp and 8" micro-sub with something similar that takes up no space, as the trunk space has increasingly become more premium as the kids are getting older and the third row is getting more use now than 4 years ago when I bought the T4R and replaced the entire sound system.

If you have the third row, check out my solution here. Just would need to source a JBL stock speaker enclosure

Third row seat removal to access rear panel pocket, subwoofer install

More involved than a powered sub, but so worth it

I had a Kicker hideaway sub, HATED IT. It really did the absolute minimum to provide depth to my music. I ended up disconnecting it and went and bought the stock JBL sub box (comes installed in higher trim 4Runners w/JBL sound system) and had that modified to support a JL 8" box. It's now tucked hidden behind the rear panel and gives me all the bass I need without sacrificing a single inch of space in my 4Runner. LOVE IT.

we all have different taste in sound, I will say a flat speaker cannot compete with a full size on any day.

which is why I always caution people who expect bass from an all in one "sub".

The pocket sub in the cargo area is a great solution for people who want the mirror to vibrate.

Did you have to get a whole new rear plastic trim price or just cut out the trim for it?

I have a pioneer 10” in a downward firing box, but would love to have it in the rear cubby.

I didn't have to do anything. The box I bought is part of certain Trims. You have to remove the entire side panel first but then you slip this box in behind and close everything up. No trimming, no replacement, it's a perfect fit.

I just hooked up the Kicker Hideaway in the 4runner yesterday. I have to mess with the settings and get it dialed in but so far it doesn't seem to add as much bass as I'd hoped. I had it hooked up in my 2005 Chevy Avalanche and it sounded great. I have an aftermarket Pioneer headunit in the Avalanche so that might have a lot to do with it sounding better. Did you have your Kicker hooked up to the factory headunit?

I have installed and can recommend the Kenwood KSC-SW11. I have mine mounted under the passenger front seat and tied into the front speaker channels. I like the remote tuner for the sub that allows adjustment for the given song and also if you're using different inputs like CD vs Bluetooth vs Aux, etc.

When I was initially testing the sub, I just had it sitting loosely on the carpet, and the response was ok, but I was little disappointed. This sub has the ability to swap polarity 180, and that improved things. But, when I installed it permanently, things got much better.

I notched the carpet and used two 1" oak blocks to elevate it above the carpet and rear floor heat duct. I used 3M vhb tape to lock the blocks to the metal floor, and then screwed the amp brackets to the blocks.

I think it's important, especially on smaller subs, to make a hard connection to the floorboard. Since a lot of a sub's tones are below human hearing, the ability to feel bass in the seat of your pants is better transmitted this way.

Nope, I swapped out my entire system at that time. Running a Pioneer headunit since the factory head unit has major limitations.

I have the Kicker Hideaway harness hooked up to the Kicker KISL RCA adapter and I have that plugged into a wire harness adapter that I found on Amazon. I don't have it secured or placed directly under the seat yet so I'm sure along with tuning I'll get a little better sound out of it.

That harness pulls signal off the front so you should be good.
