Exclamation Help needed from TRD Pro owners!

So, my 2014 Trail is approaching 60k miles and I'm finally preparing to upgrade my suspension setup.

I like the driveability of the current stock height so I'm not looking for a 3" lift (also because I have 265s). I was thinking to add 1"-1.5" max.

I'm not an extreme offroader and I'm not looking for hardcore performances but of course, I want improvement.

After searching, it seems like Bilstein 5100 are a very common and relatively cheap upgrade but now that Toyota has recently moved to Fox shocks I'm looking into buying a low miles TRD pro fox setup (I'm budgeting 1K).

Unfortunately, I never drove a TRD pro so I am looking to get some honest feedback from someone that has or own one.

Is it going to be a big improvement from a stock 4runner? Or just better go aftermarket? I'm really looking into improve drive comfort on and off road.

Thank you in advance!

I have a 2017 Pro that is stock and I like the handling on road and off road. However, I cannot compare it to the any other 4Runner as I have not driven them. It does ride a lot better than my FJ Cruiser, which was stock and a non-TRD model.

I recently had the Pro off road out west and it rode nice over some rough roads.

I have an 18 pro with the Bilstein. The ride is fine. My biggest complaint while on road is the nosedive while braking. Off road, it seems a bit harsh to me, TBH. Based on what I've read, I think the Fox setup on the 19s addressed these issues to some extent. When my suspension is finally shot, I will be going aftermarket with a 2 - 3 inch lift and 285s. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my purchase and would do it again.

please check my thread here. PRO Fox suspension install on 2020 TRD-Off-Road /w KDSS

i am currently driving a 2019 VooDoo Pro and absolutely love the ride of the Fox. Casual trails in the cottage season and mostly 90% city driving in Canada - road have a ton of pot holes and never maintained. Anyways, I am upgrading to 2020 TRD-Off-Road-Premium with KDSS and going to install TRD-Fox set that I just bought a few days back. some concerns based on some other users' feedback can be found in my thread - that was because of KDSS. If you do not have KDSS then you will most likely be fine. I am going to find out when I install them. I am determined to make them work. all the best.

BTW, I have owned a 1999 Limited and a 2011 Trail with KDSS before the 2019 Pro. Also wife drives a 2010 Limited (with X-RES) so I can comfortably say that the Fox Ride is the best. Do not mix it up from KDSS as the function of the KDSS is completely different than the suspension. many people mix the two topics - they are not interchangable.

Thank you for the link, I will got check it out!

I don't have KDSS so it should be ok on that front. So are you installing the FOX shocks from the 2019 TRDP or another model?

2019 is the only year that came with TRD Tuned Fox setup... and now 2020 Pro too. 2018 and old TRD Pros came with Bilstine setup. I bought a set of 2019 Pro Fox.

Sorry, I meant another FOX shocks model but after reading through, I saw you got the TRD pro one. Good luck!
