I’m cooking up an aftermarket version that’s full rebuildable , will come with 1-2 rebuild kits and is less likely to fail. Testing in the next 1-2 months.

just caught this thread, reading how several KDSS owners have problems with KDSS.

i have KDSS Trail, and was under the impression that KDSS is a fairly durable suspension system

yes, there are known owners with KDSS issues, but those tend to have high miles and/ or drive the off road path regularly.

for those of us with KDSS 4Rs.
  • Stayed with Stock Build
  • staying on Pavement
is KDSS still viewed as being durable performance suspension, or are problems NOW starting to surface regularly with KDSS 4R owners??

Trying to filter out what all is going on with the KDSS problems? are these problems with owners whom went Aftermarket Lifts/ suspensions or regularly trail driving their KDSS 4Rs???

No good data for an accurate answer but I bet most who are having issues are lifted, have bigger tires, and regularly offroad. Lifting changes the geometry of all suspension components and stresses it in new ways that weren't tested by Toyota.

okay, thanks for your opinion..

that what i figured, that Suspensions Mods and /or non factory sized tires etc, maybe problem drivers with these KDSS post problems

what about the OP for this thread?

is your 4R KDSS STOCK build, or do you have MODs with either suspension and/ or Tires on your 4R?

lots of offroad miles on ours, almost all with e rated 33's and 2/1" lift. zero issues. there are tons of guys who have no issues. the only people who comment are ones who do have issues. thats the nature of forums. I'm not going to start a thread about how dialed my setup is, however if i have a issue with say a dirt king upper control arm, i might start a thread.

The only mod I haven't done is long travel

Definitely not stock, on 35's, aftermarket UCA, suspension, bumpers, winch, RTT, etc, roughly 6000lbs.

Perfectly said..

and good to hear that plenty of KDSS owners with Tires/ Suspension Mods with no related issues.

so just like everything else.. a few have problems and many more dont..

was just trying to get my head around this thread.

i was always under the impression that KDSS was durable, like the rest of the 4R..

thank you all for adding context into this thread to help alleviate concern for us other KDSS 4R owners.

the on highway manners you get with KDSS was worth the risk of a potential issue later on. that's how we felt when we made the decision in 2017.

PLUS now that DOM has brought some great products to market, its the best of both worlds. on demand "light" sway bar disconnect, improved sway bar geometry, etc.

100% agree...i filtered Trail Edition with KDSS when i bought mine.

She drives perfectly. I dont have comparison as i havent owned a non kdss 4R.

What i can say is that she drives perfectly and handles corners and highway with confidence.

KDSS drive performance is perfect..it just works....

Now if only the TE did not have this two tone gray bumper thing going on (SMH)...

Dang bumper needs to be SOLID color paint

That two tone gray bumper is awful
.

Or let a trail "self clearance" them like I did on mine. Ended one run missing the front valances, with just the clips left hanging in the bumper. haha.
