If you had to choose 10, a T4R would work too

Found this today...a nice list indeed...

Top 10 Used Overland Vehicles – Expedition Portal

and add to it, they are talking about my lowly SR5 being considered...
not just Trail/OR's...
"... one of the most usable, capable Toyotas ever."

Obviously i wouldnt put this here if it only had Jeeps and Land Rovers listed...
hey, im biased...sue me

Interesting he likes the old GX and the new 4R, but not the new GX or 4G 4R.

I guess at the end of the day, there's only so much room on one list for the same vehicles.

The article was written and the vehicles chosen based off of the vehicles that they have personally owned and used as well as those vehicles that can still be found in good shape and for reasonable prices. As you can see compared to the old list some 8-9 years earlier, it has changed based off of what is now readily available in the second hand market.

The 2010-13 GX is more sought after than the 2014+ because of the grill and simply due to price. 4th Gen 4Runners are now 10+ years old at best and most are worn out, the 5th Gen is a much more sensible purchase at this point and can be more readily found with lower miles and in decent shape.

I like the list for the most part, it's reasonable except for the Ram 2500/3500 diesel and the 7.3L Excursion. Neither of those vehicles are widely used in overlanding nor are they cheap to buy and maintain. They are however growing in popularity recently due in part because of the AEV Prospectors and the Excursion simply because of the allure of the 7.3L in a large SUV. Either way, both are huge and that can be a detriment off-road. I have owned a 2500 and multiple 250's, they are hard to squeeze down most trails .

yeah, I think it's a fine list, just an observation. I think the deisels are popular with people building a camper on the back end, which is more overloading style off roading than crawling style, but it's no doubt a popular segment for their readers.

This article completely gets me.

I'm currently stuck in the dilemma of choosing which of these (non-P/U) rigs to buy.

For various reasons I have until Sept 30 to make my decision. If I had to pick today, it'd be a 4Runner (hence me just joining this forum). Last week it was LR4.

The week before that it was a 200 series.

Yeah, I think Iíd be suspicious if more than half the list was Toyota group products. Half? Thatís just fine. More than half? Now I suspect foul play... If you had to choose 10, a T4R would work too

Interesting list because I would not have considered some of the vehicles on the list for overlanding. Definitely all worthy to be on the list and nice seeing the several Toyota/Lexus BOFs on display.

Best to steer clear of the LR4, but not a damn thing wrong with the 200. In fact, depending on the year and your pocketbook, I'd recommend the 200 over the 4Runner every single day and twice on Sundays lol.

200 is too big.

It also has zero LBQ.
