Ah, ok, I see, you can mount on roof or in gutter. Gotcha. Looks like a perfect setup.

Hey. I missed the Halloween sale. I didn't notice anything in the Black Friday thread (here). Any chance of a repeat of the Halloween pricing then?

Great. I want to mount a few rotopax, strap down two boxes, some maxtrax, and a shovel. What attachment accessories would you recommend?

Rotopax you'll be able to use the mounts they sell. We will be releasing our load panels soon which will make mounting these much easier but they bolt up to a crossbar with a couple of tnuts and bolts easily.

Boxes most people drill and bolt direct to some tnuts in the extrusion. That way the hardware gets locked inside the box and they are not going anywhere. This is the go to method for Plano and Pelican style cases.

As far as Maxtrax go, a lot of people just use carriage bolts and some wing nuts, but you can also pick up their mounting pins as well. Our Load panels we are making will also have locations for these to mount to.

The shovel is really easy, just pick up a couple of quick fists and bolt them to the extrusion. If you wanted it mounted off the side you could also pick up our new awning mounts and bolt them to that but it would be a bit more expensive. You can also accomplish the same thing with a couple of L brackets from a local hardware store.

I put a four 3” 1/4-20 all threads up there with wing nuts and plastic washers for my maxtrax along with 4 threaded eye hooks for strapping down my chairs and gazelle tent.
I am quickly running out of the t-nuts to thread in my mounts.

Glad to hear you are getting good use out of them. They definitely make things easy as far as mounting accessories!

Am I correct in seeing that there is no rear fairing on your rack? Wondering if you can detail why one was not included?

I like the concept of the no silicone feature and it has made me interested in your model...but most of the racks I have been looking at have a rear fairing.

Any foreseen issues with the rubber/pressure seal (vs rtv or silicone)? I live in a salty environment, and worry about the rubber’s ability to stand up to temp changes and road salt.

The rear fairings are simply a stylistic choice if anything they create more wind resistance on the back of the rack. We have seen no reason to add one to ours, and we also believe they look better without them from purely an opinion standpoint.

There have been no noted issues with our rubber seals on any of our racks from our experience or from our customers. We highly recommend avoiding silicone as we have seen improper use lead to some very expensive damage to the headliners of vehicles.

We use chloroprene rubber that is rated for -30 to 200 °F which also has excellent resistance to oil, grease, and salt. Over the past year and a half we have seen excellent results with no issues from salt, mag chloride, and water as a whole. I hope that answers your question!

Agree with you guys on the silicone. Seems like most racks use silicone which ends up being application dependent. Some people are putting too much and others too little. I like the idea of a rubber foot and maybe some additional silicone. The stock Toyota rack essentially uses a rubber foot and a mild dab of silicone on the bolts. I had a leak in my rack a few months ago and had to apply silicone because the original installer didn't do it. Now i'm paranoid after every rainstorm.

Any upcoming sales or group buys?

There is definitely a right and wrong way to use silicone. We avoid it all together on our products but we also won't tell you not to use it if you feel it be necessary as it comes down to user preference.

We do not have any planned sales or group buys for the near future.

The team installed a Crestone Rack on a 2020 5th Gen 4runner the other day.

The customer purchased a Crestone Rack with a half fairing to accommodate a 40” Extreme Led Lightbars Stealth Bar, a Tepui Tents Kukenam 4 person tent, and 4 extra crossbars to allow for easy mounting of different accessories.

Check out the images for a quick overview of the install, as well as the finished product!
