my rack came with a defective rail, and later on i discovered some of the hardware was no good as well. it took some emails and having the rack on and off multiple times in my case to eventually sort it all out
i work QC in my respective industry, so i will say that how Sherpa dealt with the situation (they were aware of the issues and addressed it quickly) was indicative of a robust quality system rather than a deficient one. to see they're working to make it even better is a great sign.
in any case, I'd rather deal with a small company with a good product design and growing pains over a large company with so-so product

I ordered the Crestone from Truck Brigade on May 16th. It arrived on July 20th. I finally installed it this weekend. I tried to install it myself, but it's easier with an extra pair of hands for the side plates and crossbar. The rear and middle mounting brackets are vey secure with the roof. The front brackets feels like it has too much side to side movement. I might need to redo the front mounts in the future. Overall, the installation was easy to DIY. The online instruction and YouTube video made the process easy. I didn't have any QC problems with the rack.

I ordered my Crestone from Truck Brigade on May 14 and it was delivered on July 22. I installed it right away - solo - 2 hours taking my time. Wasn't too bad at all. I used spring clamps to hold the side rails to the middle/rear mounts for the part of the job that needed another set of hands. Using microfiber towels to prop up the crossbars on the other end also helped. The QC on the parts was 101% (got a few extra in the hardware bag - better than a few short). Packaging was also good. Drop shipped from Sherpa and took only 3-days to transit.
The tip I would add for the next guy is -- use compressed air or something to blow out the extra metal shavings still in the tapped holes on the ends of the cross-bars.
The other nugget of info is that the drop in T-Nuts are 1/4-20 -- so if you are looking to get more and keep them matched up.
I'll be mounting up an Autohome RTT and awning this weekend. That should be fun. My plan is to mount two cross bars to the RTT using Sherpas tent mount brackets and THEN lower the tent onto the roof rack and then screw in the cross bars from the sides. Wish me luck.

They are 1/4-20, but worthwhile to check the thickness. I ordered a bunch and ended up having to chamfer the edges so they would fit the triangular void in the 80/20 properly. Super easy to do, but if you can avoid it or don't have the tools...

My experience was similar. Ordered from Truck Brigade May 13 and arrived on July 20. Installation was easy, except I have a little wiggle near the front brackets if I pull on the handle near the front of the rack. The rack looks great and allows me to use my Yakima Rocketbox as well, which is an added bonus.

I ordered my Crestone directly from Sherpa on 6/6 and received it on 7/31. Upon opening the package there were a few scratches and nicks on the fairing and on one of the side bars, which appeared to be touched up with a sharpie.
Install was simple and straight forward. It's easily a one person job. Overall I do like the look of it and ease of installation. Their customer service rep has been responsive with updates whenever I called. I just placed an order for a couple of their mounting systems for my awning and traction boards.

I’m starting to gather some ideas on a light bar for the crestone rack.
What is everyone running and what’s the max length?

@ blksubykid
- sorry if this is old or if you've answered elsewhere, but how did you mount your tent? Did you use the Sherpa tent mounts or the mounts from CVT? im in the market for the same CVT and looking into the mounting system first.

Used the basic hardware from CVT. However, when I picked up the Mt. Hood from CVT Las Vegas, Bobby and I were discussing how we should mount it to the Crestone. I think they only had the 1" Frontrunner tent mounts but I didn't want the tent to sit that high off the rack. I also do not think Sherpa had released their version of tent mounts yet. We ultimately decided to install them using the basic brackets that come with the tent (we used 6 brackets, not sure how many they come with normally).
Forgot to mention, the bottom tracks on the tent started to vibrate and contact the on the front most aluminum crossbar creating a loud "creaking" noise. I installed some pads underneath and have eliminated that annoyance.
Hope this helps

I highly recommend using the tent mounts we offer! We have a version that adds only 1/2" of height and will get rid of any rattling and be much more secure than the factory mounts. We designed these around the CVT Mount Hood after having issues with the mounts that come with them. I think Bobby has done a few installs with our mounts now and speaks highly of them as well.
On top of that November 25th-30th, they are going to be 25% off!

Black Friday Sale
As hinted above, we will be running our biggest sale of the year November 25th-30th! Head over to Sherpa Equipment Company to learn more about it!
We are also going to see the shortest lead times we have had in a long time thanks to the major improvements we have been making in production capabilities. That and pulling lots of strings as far as raw material allocation goes!
Thanks for the continued support from you all as we continue to grow and provide you with the best quality products we can!

Have you been shipping much to Canada? Do you know what customers have had to deal with in terms of brokerages/duties/etc.?

I had installed the tent almost 2 years ago lol I have their preorder/initial production run of the Mt. Hood. Like I said, not sure you guys released your tent mounts back then and Bobby had only seen a handful of Sherpa racks but definitely spoke highly of the design and build when I picked up the tent.
If I ever gain access to a hoist or a forklift, I’ll definitely upgrade lol
