Back to 4Runner

I'm pretty excited to get back to a 4Runner. This is my 2nd 4Runner and 4th Toyota overall. I had a 2004 4Runner and loved it but went to an Infiniti FX35. Well, I liked the Infiniti but had to go back to the 4Runner with a 2019 SR5 Premium. So, what are must have upgrades?

Lighting and tint were my first mods, as I considered them a must immediately. I have a TRD CAI ready to install. I think it depends on your intentions for the truck. My recommendation would be to develop a mod plan, modding on the fly is a slippery slope that often leads to replacing mods with other mods because they didn’t work with something else. I had 4 different ECU tunes on my last Audi trying to dial in my maps to changing hardware.

First up is tint and that's next week. I think I'm leaning towards wheels next but open to ideas.

I started with converting all the lighting to LED(interior and exterior). Almost done with that project. Did the RAV4 mirrors and FAUX TRD Pro grill w/ Raptor Lights. Now that my tires are pretty much shot, I will be looking into upgrading those.

Nice color choice! I did tint, running boards and a sprint booster, but that's it so far. Enjoy the upgrade from the 4th gen.

Looking for my first 4Runner and hope I find one as nice looking as yours. Tires and maybe wheels and small lift would be my first actions if all else is good. Then a rooftop tent and a hitch hanger to put some goodies lol.

Nice Toy for sure

Looks great! I think A/T tires and rock sliders if you're planning to take it off road.

If I had to do it all over again, I would mod only what I absolutely needed, keeping in mind overall weight and GVM. Off the lot, your curb weight is approximately 4750 lbs. GVM is approximately 6100 lbs. Every ounce of weight you put on detrimentally affects performance.

I would take it out and do whatever it is you intend to do with it. Base your upgrades on that. For example, if you wheel it, do that. If while you're out on the trails you determine that you need extra ground clearance, then consider bigger tires and/or a lift. But first, determine a need for it, instead of just doing it off the bat.

I think this approach leads to better mods, as well as, saving you money.

Most of all, drive it and enjoy it!

I've never modded any of my Runners, but I agree with this approach. Ideally, mods will help take you a little further off the beaten path than stock will. A slow approach will save money and headaches, and will end up getting you what you really want.

Nice color, btw ;-)

I'll probably just stick with cosmetic changes. Tint is next week. I'm thinking Wheels next and then running boards. I rarely if ever go off road which actually is a shame owning this thing!!!

We are contemplating a small camper. I already have an enclosed hitch hauler that we just bought for extra capacity in moving daughter back to college.

Start Here Modifications, Write-Ups, Quick Links, and FAQ's and work your way down the list....

There's no shortage of mods to spent money on!!

Congrats on the new 4runner!

My first mod was getting better tires and went with the Falken WildPeak AT3W. Then I went with a tint and most recent mod was Pro Comp wheels. Next on my list is going to be a roof rack and finally a lift.

I started off with tint, then added the TRD skid plate. I have LED headlamp replacements as well as reverse lights and puddle lamps ready to install. I am adding a 1" spacer to the front suspension to level the truck, and then full suspension kit later. It's all about your end goal
