Wondering what to do with smaller spare & carrier

I moved up to 285/70/R17s and I have a matching spare that I'm going to mount on a sweet-ass swingout bumper.

What I'm wondering is, what to do with the stock spare and the retracting chain carrier under the trunk...

Do I remove it? If I take out the smaller spare should I take out the spare carrier too?

I don't want that chain swinging around down there willy nilly.

Anybody with experience on this have any thoughts or recommendations?

If you aren't using it, and never will again remove it.

If you don't want to remove it, zip tie the chain up so it doesn't rattle or swing around.

End thread.

That swinging tire carrier is worth $$$.

I am using a 255/75-17 in my spare location for my set of 285/70-17 tires. On my 4Gen. Roughly 1/2" diameter difference..

YMMV for the 5gen.

It depends on what you're doing in your vehicle. I would either remove it - or use it to hang something else in its place. Even if the replacement was just a simple cheap steel wheel with a plate welded to the bottom for some protection of the other stuff under there. You can often find single spare Toyota Aluminum wheels for $50 or less and I'd just use one as a skid plate. It's cheap, light weight, and offers some protection down there.
