You do not have to do anything to run an Odyssey. Just put it in and drive it. I talked to Odyssey about this concern on the forum and posted this info in another thread. Odyssey said there has never been a problem with 4runners and the lower voltage would not be a warranty issue. I am going on 2 years on my Odyssey with no modifications and it works great.

Really? Well, that's great to hear, especially since you are right here in AZ. What size is yours?

How long did your stock battery last? I doubt I can trust mine more than 2 years.

On a different note, have you driven Red Mountain/Backaway to the Desert Bar? I know it has got a lot harder than it used to be, but is it really beautiful?

I took my still working stock battery out at 4 years age. My neighbor put in in his Sienna minivan and ran it another year when it failed. I am not a good comparison for battery life in AZ because my 4runner is in an airconditioned garage 95% of the time. My Odyssey is a 34r.

I have been to the desert bar 5 or 6 times. I am not sure what trail exactly you are asking about but I know 3 ways to get there. The main road is a very easy graded trail. The second way is about 1/2 way down the main trail you cut off to a medium difficulty trail that goes by some mines and goes to the bar. The 3rd way is more challenging. I did it 10 or 12 years ago in a lifted jeep Wrangler. If you can get up the big hill at the start near highway 95 you should be alright but it gets very slow with 7-9" rocks near one of the mines for a good distance. You would want a lift and some descent tires. Trails change a lot here over the years so it may be different now. As far a beauty it is ok but not the best in my opinion.

Hi Peak Runner,

You can't go wrong with the "Odyssey EXTREME!" It fits in the factory battery tray, no hassling with changing the cables, and it's reviews are ***** 5 star rated! 'Happy Trails,

~rig~ cheers

Anything with the word "extreme" has got to be good!!!!!! Word has it, that the battery is filled with mountain dew.

jk.. I got the same battery, it's pretty good.

I ran AGM / Optima batteries in my Z0-06 Corvette, but only because the battery tray was directly over a lot of electronics that leaking battery acid would have caused big $$$ problems.

That's is not the case on my 2015 TRD Pro 4Runner. Not meaning to offend anyone here, but why bother spending the extra $$$ on an AGM battery when a Walmart battery would work fine? My OEM battery is still working fine going through pretty extreme heat and humidity in Houston.

I've been looking to either upgrade the existing Panasonic battery with an AGM or to install a second battery. I need more capacity to run my ham radios when parked.

It seems like Autocraft Platinum batteries get very good reviews. A size 24F has 710 CCF and 70 AH capacity which is nice. It lists for $199 but you can purchase it online (pick at your local store) with a 20% off coupon to bring the price to around $160. It's not bad for an AGM battery with a decent capacity. I've had one on my truck for 5 years until I sold the truck. The battery never gave me any problems and I could run the radios for the whole day without having to run the engine to recharge it.

Odyssey 34M-PC1500ST dual post battery

Any thoughts of using this marine battery as has dual posts if want to hook up accessories. I will be adding a winch and LED lights soon. Has the cranking amps and the reserve amps to handle most anything.

I have a Kodiak dual system with two Odyssey Extremes in my 06 Rubicon. They are hitting 9 years soon! Costs $470 to replace them both so I am happy with the lifespan! 4Runner gets a old fashion Walmart lump. Mule gets a $56 Walmart 24F!

I bought the Northstar 31m and it was a waste of money getting the dual post...they are so close together you can't hook up accessories to the second terminal. If I think about it I will get a pic tomorrow showing the issue I ran into related to this.

9 year run on lead is pretty good... you must actually take care of your stuff.

I got away with running a Costco Interstate starter battery as my house battery for years. It still does surprisingly well when you don't need to discharge it to the floor.

The battery takes the fridge load overnight without a problem, I don't even hit the low voltage disconnect which is set at 12.1v To a degree I even question the need for a true deep cycle for most weekend warriors.

I can supplement it with a 50 watt solar panel and you don't even need to start the truck all weekend... I have it, but never use it.

That said, when it time to replace, I am building a custom lithium solution which should be pretty amazing in terms of size/weight and run time.
