False. Read your warranty and specs, the factory charging system will void your warranty because the voltage is too low.

Odyssey requires 14.0 to 14.7V, the factory charging system is not sufficient for an AGM battery, the voltage is too low.

I have two 4Runner both have odyssey batteries. Both work great and have for two years. Buy and don’t look back. People that complain don’t own them. Real experience wins on this one.

A lead battery, AGM or other, will slowly sulfate internally if you can’t provide it with the correct charge voltages. It’s a slow death and you might not notice it is happening at all.

If you actually capacity test your battery, as in run the cell from 100% to 0% state of charge by voltage and measure power out consumed, you would basically see a greater loss of capacity over time vs a unit that was maintained correctly. Both will have capacity loss, but one will be at an expedited rate.

In addition to the capacity loss, it's ability to delivery higher currents will also be reduced.

It will continue to degrade and its ability to hold a charge will reduce. Ultimately forcing you to remove it from service. By that time, its ready to replace and probably too far gone to recover properly. At the end of the day, all you are doing is reducing its potential service life. It just wont last as long as one that was maintained correctly.

Batteries are pretty simple devices... how you treat them is directly related to their service life.

2 years those batteries are still babies.

I would expect a premium AGM to last 5 to 9 years. You won't see these ill effects until later in life.

Actually, Enersys says otherwise. @03_4x4Runner talked to them and I have my info from them in writing from last week.

The fine print on everything is normally made to make things look scarier than they are in order to prevent abuse. Write them an email and see what they say for yourself.

Question What about DieHard AGM?

I have a 4 year old Diehard AGM, fine so far, although I plan to test it before winter sets in hard. Not that winter is all that bad in NJ. No special voltage adjuster installed.

Advance Auto is carrying the DieHards now, since Sears is just about dead.

Does anyone have more experience/info on the Diehard AGM?

Looks like Johnson Controls makes them.
If they do, it's probably a good battery.
