Thanks Deep_palancar for that part #. Just wanted to double check.

Thanks to you all as well for your responses. I drive a wrecker all day, makes checking much less replying tough. Ironically first call was a guy with a TRD Pro in a parking garage. Got to take a look at his skid. Even better it would look much cleaner with my bumper setup... so there's that plus.

Will check out some of your recommendations as well. Those of you kind enough to offer yours, my thanks! You are most likely right and anywhere out of the region would probably be cost-prohibitive to ship however.

For now I'll wait. Look online, both social media and craigslist. Keep my eyes open and hope one pops up or a different option presents itself. Wish I could upgrade...a lot of things. With tires due soon and money tight, best I hang on for a little while.

Appreciate all the thoughts, any and all are much appreciated!

- Jeff

I have a new 2019 SR5 Premium. Before that, I had a 2006 4th gen, which had severe corrosion on the frame and suspension components. I managed the rust as best I could. Replaced many, many components and did other work on the frame, but it was a losing battle. So, I gave it up and acquired the 5th gen. I’m surprised (and concerned) to hear that your skid plate rusted out completely. How is the frame doing?

Strangely it’s really only the skidplate. Got a good look changing the t-case and axles. Other than that piece, everything looks pretty much as it should for 90k miles and trails it’s been down. Given the design, I wonder if failing to get ice/salt/snow out in a timely manner contributed. The difference in weird angles and crevices between the stocker and even the TRD is crazy.

I’ll post some pics after work so it’s easier to see the condition and area of damage.

Thanks, Jeff. I do live in a region where snow, ice, and road salt usage is commonplace. I tried to mitigate the corrosion as much as possible, but it was a losing battle. In any case, I’ve moved on to a new 4Runner. Hopefully the corrosion won’t be as much of an issue as paint, coatings, and metal treatments are likely to have advanced/improved since 2006.

Fyi, i pulled my skid plates to wash the under carriage and the gas tank was in contact with its skid plate. Only a year old and rust was forming (not in the rust belt). while the skid is a bother, the tank is unacceptable. Placed some foam between the two after painting and reinstall.

On my 4th generation 4Runner, the infrastructure holding the tank in place rusted to pieces. I had to replace it all, and it wasn’t an inexpensive repair.

Tank is plastic. If there's rust on it - it's just rust that has transferred from the skid plate.

My biggest beef is with the hardware. The rust I've had on the OEM hardware is worse than I have on my 1975 FJ40. In the same conditions for half a century. This is not how 2015 model year hardware should look...

Wow, this thread is timely for me. The rest of the bottom side of my 2012 looks great with regards to rust, but the skid plate looks like complete trash. I used the jack point in the middle of the plate 2 days ago to do brakes, and I could see the rusted out area crumbling as I applied pressure with the jack.

I'm on the lookout for a stock front skid in the Dallas area right now. Stock skid works fine for me, and I understand some of the aftermarket skids don't have the reinforced jack point on them that makes contact with the front crossmember - that to me is essential.

Unfortunately the Dallas group is pretty dead on this forum, but I've posted up on my local facebook group.

Chiming in on a very old post to say I am having similar skid plate rust problems and looking for recommendations on where inexpensive replacements can be found?
