Replacing factory stereo and "Party Mode"
I am replacing the factory head-unit (non JBL) on my 2013 today as it constantly glitches off and on and becomes unresponsive randomly but frequently.
Is there anything special I should ask for or note to the install tech regarding the rear speaker bypass function of "Party Mode"? I am not replacing any speakers just the stereo (with a Sony XAV-AX3000).
I'm sure they've seen this setup before but was just curious if others have specific experience and if there are options on the install or settings.
Thanks guys!

I think Antman had some tutorials on how to wire up Party Mode so that all of the speakers worked all of the time.

I just had a Kenwood DDX8706S installed with a Maestro interface & Toyota harness. "Party Mode" still functions and there was no mention of any special measures taken aside from a custom harness required to retain use of the shark fin antenna for SiriusXM.
PS - wireless Apple CarPlay is awesome!

Have a 2013 as well and my head unit does the same thing. Drives me crazy. Been looking at other threads and units to install with car play. From what I've read, you can get everything you need through Crutchfield and it's basically a plug and play with the new dash kit.

Can't recommend replacing the speakers enough, cheap mod but makes a huge difference, especially if you're swapping out the radio

Yeah, it’s ridiculous at this point. Started about a year ago with not changing channels and volume knob not working. Now it often refuses to light the display, blanks out after being on for a while and completely locks up until I turn the truck off and start again.
Always heard great things about Crurchfield but you have to be inclined to do the work yourself and that’s not my strong suit at all.

I didn't have a party mode button because I have a lower trim, but I ended up replacing my entire stereo system anyways. I had the installer put in a subwoofer volume knob in that location instead. Works for me What kind of party would it be without BASS??

Very cool. I ended up putting mine in the stock USB location, had to modify the hell out of a blank but it was so worth it.

I replaced the factory non-JBL Head unit in my 2013 with a Kenwood Excelon model. It’s worlds better. Plus, I replaced all the speakers and added a powered sub under the seat. I did modify the party mode, but doing so isn’t necessary. To read some of the options for party mode, search for
@ rigtec
posts. One is called “Party Mode Tweak’”, and contains more info than most of us would be able to figure out.

Hi KuhDunkADunk, (Lol!)
That's a great idea//place for the bass/sub volume knob! When I was using the 'JL Audio mono-blocks', I used their Telephone cable input plugs to connect my bass/sub volume knobs to the amps. I also drilled a 1/4 inch(?), hole in the "Knee bolster air-bag panel"!
Well, when I switched over to the "Alpine PDX-1200 sub amps, I found that their Telephone cable input plugs didn't work right; turning the bass volume knob up from the 7 O'clock position resulted in FULL OUTPUT at about 9 O'clock, then petered off from then on????!
So. I started using a "Standard" bass volume rheostat/potentiometer instead, for a linear increase in low frequency volume. I also had to move the knob to a new location because the rheostat case was too large for the original location that I'd chosen:
"THE CONFIGURATION PLAN"
So now it works as it should, it's inconspicuous, and very easy to operate from the driver seat! ...I love your set-up as well! 'Best',
rig, cheers!

Any idea where I can buy one of those volume controls to instal?

13 here too that cuts out occasionally.
I'm wondereing how far to go.
I find that the sound with everything set to center is still very bass heavy.
Is that just me or the system?
I realize a lot of you like a lot of bass, but this just sounds way too much. I would rather have cleaner highs than booming base.
Opinions???
And what head would be best and/or speakers without breaking the bank.
