Need approval for tire/wheel/suspension combo

Hey guys,

Did some research and got some parts picked out. I know putting these things together can be a matter of compatibility sometimes and since I'm going to be doing things myself most likely I just want to make sure the parts I have picked out are going to be compatible and smooth riding!

I have a 17 TRD offroad with stock tires, wheels and suspension currently at 50k.

If you have any alternative recommendations or sizing, or things I should expect, please comment! Thanks!

Parts list:

Eibach Pro Truck Lift
JBA Offroad Upper control arms
SCS Ray10 17 X 8.5 6 X 139.7 4.30" -10mm
BFG KO2 AT 285/70/17

I just got done posting about this in the Eibach thread. That offset with the 8.5 might be too much for 285s.

Only speculating, I'm a total novice. I did find this on another thread: "17x8 with 4.5" BS and 0 offset is the perfect wheel on the 5th gen. Least chance of rubbing and a flush with the fender look." From this page Best offset to be flush with 285s

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

You're approved on the suspension, tires, and UCA's.

I would like you to do some more homework on the wheels, however. If you were using the stock wheel width / offset / backspacing you would have no problems, or possibly only have to complete the fender liner mod. With this set-up, you might need one of these or possibly all of them:

Body Mount Chop
Removal of mudflaps
Fender liner mod

you'll get minor rubbing with those rims, but you will be ok for the most part.

Not tracking JBA "off road" control arms. Stock replacement, STD high caster and HD high caster.
"Please Note: 32.7" and larger diameter tires need aftermarket wheels with less then factory wheel back space. Tire Size Calculator

Wheel recommendation

LT285/70R17 (32.7" x 11.2") tire on 17 x 9 wheel, -12mm offset (4.50" backspace)

LT285/70R17 (32.7" x 11.2") tire on 17 x 8.5 wheel, -9mm offset (4.30" backspace)

LT285/75R16 (32.8" x 11") tire on 16 x 9 wheel, -19mm offset (4.25" back space)

LT255/85R16 (33.10" x 10") tire on 16 x 8 wheel, -12mm offset (4" back space)

LT315/70R17 (34.4" x 12.4") tire on 17 x 9 wheel, -25mm offset (4.00" backspace)

Tire sizes that work well with the JBA UCAs

265/75R16 tire 31.6" x 10.4" on factory wheels

255/75R17 tires 32.1" x 10" on factory wheels

275/65R18 tires 32.1" x 10.8" on factory wheels

Any tire that is 32" diameter and smaller there is no fitment problem. "

@Charlievee so would I be better off not purchasing JBA UCA with my selected options then? Could you be a little more clear?

@nimby what am I missing exactly? Aren't SCS wheels made for Toyota trucks with aftermarket tires and suspensions? And how else could I achieve an (almost, if not) even line between the outside of my tires and my fenders without a negative offset/using wheel spacers?

People way over think this. Especially if you’re getting UCA’s. Find the wheels you want. Buy them. Find the tires you want. Buy them.

Yes back spacing plays a role and all tires are different blah blah blah.

I’ll say it before someone else does.....there’s literally a thousand threads about tire and wheel fitment. I’m running a 12.50” wide tire on my SCS wheels just fine. Have a huge amount of space to clear the UCA.

As someone stated. SCS is literally made for Toyota.

SCS wheels. Hub centric, lightweight, perfect offset. No guarantees, but fender liner mod and mud flap removal most likely if you get 285/70R17. Probably no BMC. Liner mod easy. I would do it again if I got a new 4Runner. I just chose ToyTech Boss and SPC UCAs but your setup would work perfectly fine.

I am sure you know, but expect poor gas mileage.
