Fox Shock...Corrosion?

I just installed a set of Fox shocks on my truck, 2.5 in the front and 2.0 in the rear. Should I be concerned about corrosion of these shocks? Should I treat them with something?

I go to the beach once a year, but haven't drive on the sand yet. We get chemicals on our roads a few times a year during the winter.

Wouldn't expect they'd corrode faster than any other shock or suspension component..however, exposed to enough chemicals or salt and anything will corrode at some point..if it's that much of a concern you could try that fluid film treatment that a lot of folks up north use during winter to protect their undercarriage. good luck.

Brasso will give it a shine and fix it for you. It's been used in the Marines for almost 100 years. I just finished doing my shocks with it.

if u live in humid, salty conditions, aluminum will corrode.

One of my kings shocks is all pitted and turning brown .... so yeah, i'd buy some cheap clear coat in a can and coat them before installing.

They need care. Mine work great and look like ass Fox suggest "periodic" waxing... yeah right that is a PITA, getting wax on the tubes in between the spring, pfft right.

Recent pic, 5 year old shock with a few "cleanings" I have tried a few different coatings over the years, (plugging Amsoil here) their HD metal protector has worked the best so, it is more like a wax based product. I wash/rinse my undercarriage pretty religiously after snow storms to nix the salt/brine they use here too.

Due for a rebuild soon and I'll buff and treat the tubes again.

Use Mavcoat. And buy it from 4Weheel Parts because everywhere else it is twice as expensive. At 4WP is just 10/can and no shipping. Vs 20/can and 10 shipping most places!

Mavcoat claims to be safe for all other parts and components.

I bought two cans even though here in AZ I can do without.

I have seen so many pictures of re-buildable coilovers from other areas looking like junk yard finds.

Isn't Mavcoat a drying wax based treatment too? That seems to be the only thing that I've used, and heard from others too, that works the most reliably without using wet-types like oil-based.

Mine looked top notch for two years, their coating just simply wore off and wore off quick (even after their suggestions of waxing them). I was looking to just purchase new tubes to the tune of $350 for the pair, we'll see how well the clean up first.

I am curious about coil-over covers, I have seen a few folks use them I am wondering how well they keep CO's protected, particularly in winter weather that killed mine.

I use the icon coilover covers, and they work great. I've got 3 winters on mine, and I'm going to replace them this year (the bottom elastic cuff is pretty relaxed now, not a big deal) The criticism that I read is that they trap stuff inside-- that's really not the case at all. I find critical reviews of these from people that have never used them. Same as the "don't use shock boots" crowd.

I throw mine in a bucket with some revivex (DWR) after I clean my fishing waders and jacket each season in said bucket. This keeps the water beading off of them.

They work very well for the winter. I think I paid $65 from metaltech 4x4, and I'll order my next set from them too.

Btw, I bought the Icon neoprene covers which I have seen on pictures to make for great protection but they are hard to put on already mounted 6112s.

If anyone wants mine, you can get them at some discount to make it worthwhile over getting from a vendor. One is a little dusty from my attempt to install it, but that's it.

Just have them wrapped with a clear material.

It is a good idea, I'd thought about it too. I don't think wrap would hardly effect heat dissipation and it is pretty durable. I think the concern is the threaded sections. That is where all mine started and worked its way down.

I wonder how well it would it hold up and if you did get moisture underneath it could make corrosion worse, more worrisome on the backside where it wouldn't be as noticeable.

My brother had his Kings wrapped and so far so good. They’ve been on a little over a year.
