Just wondering when I'm going to have to change out the X-REAS shocks on my 4Runner. What lifespan have you guys seen before they leak?
They still seem to be good at almost 90K miles, and are leaps and bounds better than the stock shocks I had on my 2018 4Runner ORP when new. Guess I'll probably retrofit some 5100's when these are done.

Mine started leaking around 70k miles and were replaced under warranty. Now I'm waiting for the replacements to start leaking so I can toss a lift on it.
Mine was replaced under warranty for a slight leak at around 47k miles. Mine did see a lot of rough fire roads etc. so it was expected.

All 4 of my shocks started leaking around 45k. Though I had a spacer lift which may have contributed to an early failure. Oil started to coat the shock bodies with oil pooling around the top seal under the boot. Removed and went aftermarket.

Thanks for the replies everyone! When you noticed it leaking, was there oil on the garage floor, or did you just see some oil around the shocks?
On mine there was a slight amount of oil coming from the fitting at the top of one of the front shocks. It just made a drip line down the shock with no oil on the floor. If it was not for all the dust from the fire roads making it darker no one would notice. It really did not need to be replaced but the dealer mentioned it during an oil change. The service tech told me it was going to be expensive and quoted a price of around 3K or so to replace the system. I then mentioned I had the extended warranty and he said it will be free. I got them to put on a small spacer lift on the front while it was apart also. On a side note I notice the new system is not as harsh riding as my original xreas.

When you lift it, can you go to a standard, non xreas system?

That’s awesome! You lucked out. I’ve heard it could be as much as $5k!
For everyone whose XREAS has leaked or otherwise required replacement, did you notice a difference in handling or just the leaked oil on the equipment?
