Replace SR5 rocker panels with TE ones
I want to add Bud Built Rock sliders to my new to me 2011 SR5 4Runner. All the slider manufacturers state that one can only install their sliders on Trail Edition T4R’s. The bolt on rocker panels on the SR5, Limited, etc. T4R’s are a couple inches taller than the TE ones.
So the question is: can I remove my SR5 panels and just install a set off a Gen 5 trail edition T4R? Or is there additional issues with matching up the front and rear wheel well sheet metal with a TE?
I found a set of TE rocker panels off a wreck. don’t want to order them and have them shipped here just to find out that they don’t work.

Won't work. Fenders won't match up.
Shrockworks has a trim kit that works.

I have a 2014 sr5 and mistakenly bought the Shrockworks trim kit which I found out later I did not need.
So.. you can either buy my kit from me for cheap OR buy a new 2014 sr5 rocker panel set from Toyota (But that is probably stupidly expensive)
I will honestly say that of the two you want the Toyota rocker panel. It keeps mud from being flung up under the doors a lot better.
The Shrockworks trim kit was really meant for earlier gen 5 like you have but fit mine perfectly, using all the same rocker panel mounting holes. So I would assume that the 2014 sr5 rocker panel would fit on the earlier gen 5 body as well...

Yeesh, for two pieces of unpainted black plastic and a few plastic snap fasteners :P
I'll sell my Shrokworks ones for like $50 plus shipping. They are missing the little drywall fasteners that were used to hold them on but that's like another $10 from home depot.

Yes, they will fit. However, for the front you will have to buy these to match up the front:
2014 front trim covers
75857-35010
75858-35010
And the rear door fenders will slightly stick out cause the trail rocker trim is slimmer on the rear but is hardly noticeable.

I know this is an old thread but the information is kind of scattered and I am just hoping for some clarification:
I have a 2016 SR5, will I or will I not need to cut/replace the rockers and trim to install "TE Only" runners/steps/rails?

Nope, your current rocker is the same as the trail, the above was regarding 10-13 SR5 and all LE.
Edit: You dont have KDSS either, just in case you weren't aware when you are looking at steps.

Thanks, it was just that when I was searching I couldn't seem to get a solid answer on the 2014 and up rockers and this seemed the most appropriate place to ask.
Yeah, I'm aware of the suspension I've got so that's not a big deal. I was a Toyota/Lexus Tech for about 7 years, so it's more that I'm just fuzzy on some of the less obvious idiosyncrasies between trim levels.
EDIT: And now, after re-reading, I realize I missed Warthog's post about 2014 rockers, which was quoted directly above my post ... smh

@ Midnight Anvil
- Curious if you've gotten the budbuilt sliders installed on your T4R?
I'm looking at ordering one for my 2015 SR5 and wanted to make sure there was no need for the TE rockers on my 2015 SR5.
