Build Thread

So I was going to post about my experience with some shocks and decided to do a build thread instead.*

Current set up
2010 SR5 4x4 Ultra Warlock with 285/70/17 DUELER A/T REVO 3, Toytec Boss 2.0 Front Aluma Series Coilovers, Bilstein 5100 rear wtih 1.5 daystar spacer, Shrockworks skid plates and rock sliders, ARB front bumper, Pro Comp UCA.

Bought used in 2017

First upgrade was to take off the 20"s and put on some 17"s with 285/70's.
Went with Ultra warlocks with with a offset of +18mm. Had to take off the front mudflaps and tuck the front fender well liner.

Second was to upgrade the shocks to Bilstein 5100 front and rear and a 1.5 daystar spacer on the back

Next was skids and sliders. I went with Shrockworks on this as they were a good lead time and price. Added the Trail trim piece and at the same time I took off the front air dam for more clearance.

Fourth was to add a second battery, shoehorned a group 31 NAPA commercial grade AGM battery in. Ran some extra power to the cab but it is mainly for a winch.

Number five, Plastidip the chrome on the outside.... looks good from 5 feet or more.

Fast forward about 18 months and time for more upgrades.

*Just installed the Toytec Boss 2.0 Front Aluma Series Coilovers with 700# springs. Oh boy, this was interesting. So when you put these shocks on you have to put on the sway bar relocation kit or you end up with severe interference between the springs and sway bar. Well with my skid plates and the relocation kit, my sway bar hits the skid plate (this is the issue that made me want to start a thread). I plan on fixing this with some spacers on the front skid plate to give me a little more room.*

Pending additions (and the reason for the new front shocks)

ARB front bumper and winch. I am having 4 Wheel Parts do this work. I could do it myself but I don't have the time or space to do it. Once that is done (by the end of the week I hope) I will be adding my ARB single air compressor, Pro Comp upper A arm and wide angle combo lights.

You might be wondering why I am going with 4 wheel parts and Pro Comp, because I get a good deal through work and the parts are of a good quality.

So here is my take on the parts I have used.

Bilstein shocks, great set up and was a good entry level choice.

Shrockworks, I have beat the hell out of them and they have held up well. Just a little deformation on the skids form a few really hard hits but they did there job.

Ultra warlocks, they look great and have taken some abuse and were a good price.

DUELER A/T REVO 3, wow. These tires have been fantastic. Low noise and have preformed beyond my expectations off-road.

Now my future plans include a rear bumper and possibly a rear locker. The A-TRAC has been surprisingly effective and I am not sure I need a locker.

Front bumper

Well here is the ARB bumper. I think it looks pretty good. Has a 9.5k Smittybilt winch with synthetic rope.

So today I added the pro comp UCA. All in all it was an easy install. The only problem I ran into was the pre drilled holes on one of the arms for the grease fittings were to large. Went to 4wheel parts to exchange them and they just put in a larger fitting. This is a QC issue but it seemed to be the only one. I will be having the alignment done this week.

Next on my list is to add a ARB compressor and the pro comp side shooter style lights.... I hate running wires.

So something I was worried about when looking at shocks and UCA's was clearance with my tires. Now my wheels have a back space of 5.71 inches and when looking at the Icon shocks they specified a back space of 4.75 in. Not sure why it matters when the coil over isn't anywhere close to the tire, maybe I am missing something

So if you look at my spindle you can see that the little bump that sticks out is shiny, my tire sidewall is about 1/8th of an inch or less from that bump. I am pretty sure that it has rubbed at some point most likely while off-road driving at lower psi. Anyhow, I think that my set up is as close to the spindle as you can get with 285/70/17.

Another note, the Pro Comp UCA's do have better clearance then the stock UCA's.

Well today I installed my ARB compressor and Pro Comp lights.

For the compressor I am not overly impressed with it. Specifically the way it is wired. I would much prefer the the power supply wire be located in the engine bay rather then in the cab.

The lights were fairly easy and straight forward.

Both kits had wiring harnesses that simplified the installation but the Pro Comp lights were easier of the two.

I think my next step will be to add an external air fitting so that I won't have to open the hood. I think it will be installed at the bumper.

Late to the action but what do you think about the Toytec Boss Aluma 2.0’s? I just purchased them and am excited to get them installed. How do they ride compared to stock?
