Click/Clank Sound Diagnosis Help
Backstory:
A few weeks ago I installed 5100s to all four corners. Front .85" Rear 0" using the no compressor method.
The following day I took my T4R to the dealership for an alignment. On the way to the dealership, I do not recall anything unusual but what a short drive. While there I also had a rotate and balance done. I also asked that they would check the torque on my suspension components (just for peace of mind).
That week:
I began to notice some new sounds coming from my T4R.
The sounds were all a form of click/clank (getting technical here).
The sounds were first noticed when I was in my garage and cold starting the vehicle. I went into reverse. If I applied the brakes I would get a loud clank.
This leads me to believe its something with my brakes but we will continue...
When trying to reproduce the sound by switching back and forth from F to R driving and then applying brakes, I could not. I can however reproduce this cold start clank each time I cold start (~12hrs) in my garage.
I have hear similar noises in other conditions. While turning at speed (cant recall if left or right mattered; dont believe so) I can hear the noise at a point through the turn. I cannot recall how much brakes are being applied but I believe this may be at the start of the turn. This sound happens much more rarely then the first.
Back to my install:
While finishing each corner I tried to torque bolts as close to spec as I could. I could not check certain bolts because of access issues (this was mostly just for the top nuts on struts) or lack of tools. For any bolts that called for anything greater than ~85ft/lbs I torqued as high as my wrench could measure and then used a cheater bar to torque a bit further.
Reporting Issue to Dealership:
Worrying I may have brake issues I took my T4R to the dealership. I explained the situation and what my initial thoughts were. After about an hours wait the tech returned to me stating that he, his manager, and his managers manager had all VISUALLY inspected the brakes and their clips. He stated that from a visual inspection and checking the clips, everything seemed to be in order. So no answers.
My current theories:
1.) Still brake issues that may need to be checked out but not sure how.
2.) I or the dealership upon my request may have over torqued some bolts. I think this because it could be something like the LCA is bolted too tightly therefore when it sits for a while it sort of locks into position. When i go to move, it breaks that hold and I hear the clank of the LCA being let free.
Any other experiences or theories are appreciated. Sucks not being able to enjoy new suspension while worrying about what this may be.
**EDIT**
I was able to replicate my issue. Went to an open parking lot turned wheel fully right and drove 360 forwards and backwards a few times. No sound. Now with wheel fully left I can get the sound whenever first starting in forward or reverse. That said if I was previously going in reverse and start driving in reverse again the sound does not happen (same with forward). When I switch back to forward and drive the sound happens. The sound seems to be from the front drivers side.
So the sound only happens when wheel is turned full left (occasionally wheel centered) while changing direction or from cold stop.
SIDE-NOTE: I have also recently experienced what I thought was rub while in reverse; can brake slipping be mistook for rub? I am on 265s with .85 up front. I have also done the fender liner mod thinking this was rub but it happened again the other evening.
