Hi all, getting a '19 4Runner TRD Off Road, few questions:
-Can you replace the nav/infotainment unit for one with a bigger touch screen?
-It come with Dueler tires, whats better? More street/snow than off road, maybe Nokian WRG3 SUV? Had them on another suv and they were great, thay are an "All Weather" tire. Guess I'm looking for that mountain/snow flake.
-Should I be concerned about steering wobble?
-Any other things I should know?
-Any known issues?

1) -Can you replace the nav/infotainment unit for one with a bigger touch screen? - Probably very cost prohibitive if you're talking OEM 2020 version.

Guess I'm looking for that mountain/snow flake. - Get the tire you're comfortable with. If you're buying new from a dealer, why not try to negotiate the tires you want... Some have done this successfully.

3) -Should I be concerned about steering wobble? - Yes, probably a little. Take a good, long test drive and make sure to get to speeds reported by others with the issue, 55-65 MPH I believe.

4) -Any other things I should know? - Why not wait for the 2020? Unless you're looking to get a better deal on overstocked 2019's.

5) -Any known issues? - You're not concerned about gas mileage, right? And perhaps Google around on this one... I'm sure you'll find a long list of irritants.

Buy it and enjoy it. 62K with a lot of sand dunes, dirt trails and some snow.
Mine was built 7 years ago today, no problems, no repairs, my 7/75 extended warranty expires later this month and I have not needed it.

For tires, I drove from the dealer to the tire store and got General Grabber ATX. They are snowflake rated. I have 3k miles on them now and I'm a fan.

I had a '17 F250 before this, I thought that the touch screen size on the 4runner would bother me but it doesn't. Not worth it to me to replace it for a slightly bigger one even if it did bother me.

I ran my Dueller's for 30k. I recommend getting rid of them right away, they were POS's. Just about any AT tire will work, BFG, General, Falken, Cooper, Toyo, Nitto, Goodyear etc... If you do plan on a lot of off-road, then you may want to consider a C rated tire rather than a P rated tire.

There are aftermarket options for a bigger screen, but the long term reliability might be questionable. I'd rather have an 8" screen, but the one I have is adequate. The JBL system in yours (I believe that is standard now in the OR) will be better than the non-JBL I have. Mine is still adequate but not that great. Unless you just like it loud and proud, the JBL should be adequate.

I recommend getting the sliding rear cargo tray if you can get one. Some don't like it but I do. Keeps the rear flat so you can sleep back there without building a platform yourself. Plus is great for tailgaiting.

If you haven't already purchased it, the new TRD OR's have an option called "Predator" I believe. It is basically the TRD Pro wheel and some Nitto Terra Grapplers. They charge too much for it in my opinion, but if you can negotiate it down might be a good idea. If you don't get it, I would sell your stock wheels and get aftermarket. You can sell your tires and wheels together that way.

Yup great deal, started looking at a TRD Pro Sport truck, until they offered the 4R for just a bit more...incentives...and it's a showroom model......

I have a 2019 TRD Off Road with 650 miles on it. I know what you mean about the touch screen being a little small but I am getting used to it.

On some road surfaces, particularly some where the pavement has ridges from repairs and/or construction is going on, I will get a little vibration in the steering wheel at around 58-59 mph but it goes away as I get to 60 and above. It came with Nitto Terra Grappler tires.


One thing that bugs me is that is has a little bit of a cant or lean towards the drivers side. I notice this when it is parked on a flat surface. I have read on this forum that it is fairly common on these vehicles. I figure it can be adjusted but I'm kind of OCD about stuff like that so it is on the list of things to address.


I forget about all these little things when I am driving as I enjoy it so much. So far, pavement only but eventually I will take it on some trails.

The wobble has me worried to. I posed the question of 'does it take away from the enjoyment of the vehicle?' and was more or less met with a "no". So be aware of it, but I don't think its necessarily a deterrent. There seems to be a small minority of owners with it voicing their issues but overall the 4Runner is quite loved. Also, test drive it and get it up to speed. Thats what I did, and I chose the 4R that was rock solid. The others I drove were not.

Everyone, the stock Bridgestones are not going to get me through winter in the NE?

So I'm assuming the wobble wasn't fixed by 2019? Seems like a test drive wouldn't show that right away because I've read that it can develop after 5k miles. Also, are some '19's experiencing the "rumble strip" transmission issue?

Yes they will get you through the winter. But you will get more for them brand new than if worn. I had one tire I had to replace at 20k. There was a crack all the way down the middle. Other 3 were already worn out at 30k. Lots of textured concrete wears them down faster in the city but still, 30k is pathetic. They are also P rated so off-road they are not as durable.

I have a difficult time believing that the steering wheel wobble does not "take away from the enjoyment of the vehicle." Mine wobbles above 60 mph at times. Driving those speeds is not as enjoyable when my hands are shaking. Hard to imagine somebody thinking otherwise. Just my experience, I guess.

I'd test drive over 60 mph on several different roads. The surface seems to matter. Good luck.

I bought my 2019 OR last October 2. It now has 25k miles. Nautical Blue, which seems to have developed a bit more depth and luster with the few waxings I’ve done. My steering with the original Duelers has been rock steady - not a shimmy or shake. I do a lot of driving in the speed range where others have experienced steering wheel vibration, but mine is good. The ride is great in my view. The tires are good for the pavement/snow I’ve driven in. Nothing off road yet. The tires look like they’ll go a long ways, maybe to 60k. Tread is wearing evenly, no cupping or anything. Being my first vehicle with a head unit, I like that, but have nothing to compare it to. The only problem I have is that I want to drive it too much. Very, very happy with my truck!

! I picked up a 2019 OR 2 weeks ago and swapped out my tires right away for BGF KO2 C-rated tires in stock size. If I were you I wouldn’t swap the OEM MM unit for a generic unbranded system no matter what the initial reviews were mainly because I suspect that long term reliability won’t be there and it will be one extra thing to worry about (for me that runs against the grain of why I chose the T4R). I think it is best to wait and see if the 2020 unit can be retrofitted..It may be significantly more expensive but at least you won’t have to worry about it for the rest of the life of the vehicle.
