I posted in this thread two years ago about mine and still have nothing but good things to say about the product. It was initially supposed to be a temporary spare carrier until I bought a full rear bumper, but it's done everything I've needed it to so I ended up keeping it for much longer than expected. Its been offroaded a ton, smashed on various obstacles, been in rain and snow, and i've had zero issues with it. Even the $30 rattle can job I did 2 years ago looks great still. Honestly, I still can't figure out why people are paying $1400 for these carriers when this one exists for literally a fraction of the cost.
I wanted the spare to sit closer than the DOM, I couldn't deal with the constant radio silence during the strewn out back and forth with DOM + I couldn't wait +10 months.

That said, $650 is a great price and if you're willing to deal w/ all that - more power to you.

I needed a solution with a few more features, in-hand sooner v. later and was willing to pay more.

Different strokes for different folks.

Point taken. No hate, I'm sure everyone has their own reasons for getting the RIGd. It definitely has more out of the box features and add on options. From a price perspective, I just think that if more people knew about DOM, they would think twice about dropping double the money for the RIGd especially since most people just use these as a way to get their spare out of the stock location (or mall crawl).

I will note that the spare actually sits closer to the hatch on the DOM than any other carrier though

How is the spare sitting closer to the hatch a benefit? The Rigd is not twice as much (for me at least) as I live local to so cal and didn’t pay shipping.

Anybody know if the receiver on the swinging tire mount has a lesser tow rating or toungue weight?

I'm not saying it is or isn't a benefit, but for my needs, I wanted a holistically compact/tidy package for: 1) practical space/clearance 2) aesthetics

My hitch carrier from CTNewman for reference:

Tell me you don't off-road without telling me you don't off-road.

If it aesthetically appealing to me only, that’s enough.

I've been waiting 11 months now for my hitch from Detours of Maine. He hasn't responded to my messages in 2 months. Until he completes his current orders, I do not recommend anyone do business with this person or his company.

I'm not sure why other hitch/tire carriers are not closer similar to DOM. I suppose having the tire sit back an amount would act as a buffer if someone rear-ends you?

I like the pictures of the CTNewman version much.

Can't cancel. I used paypal and after 6 months you can no longer dispute it. I think this is what DOM thrives on. Once you are past 6 months you are SOL and he just ghosts people. No phone number no email address. Shady shady business practices.

I’m in the same boat. I’m currently at just over 10 months with my order. The response time to my messages is around a month. I’ve now requested a refund, we’ll see what happens…

Good luck man. I did notice that DOM updated their page and said they were behind on messages again.

It’s been over a year since I placed my order and paid Mark. Does anybody have Mark’s last name or address?
