No joke, my rear door tapped the garage door above it and it looked like someone took a flat head screwdriver to the paint. I never even heard it hit and was being careful. The nozzle to a water hose hit my passenger door and it looks like the flat head screwdriver was turned thin side and scratched to the metal almost an inch long. I wouldn’t be upset if these were blemishes or something I could get out with mineral spirits or even lacquer thinner but these are to the metal every time and it takes very little to get to the metal.

I just sent them a message this morning. If I don’t hear back I will call them. I KNOW my vehicles will get scratches and dings.. I am just seriously concerned with how easy it is for a light contact/scratch to go all the way to metal. I have 1,464 miles on it. Doing the 3rd touch up this morning.. still can’t believe how thin the paint is.

Other than the paint, I LOVE IT. KDSS rocks. I want to wrap it but not shelling out $5K for Toyota’s paint issue.

It's not just the white, I had a 3rd gen cement taco I would lightly wheel, got pin stripes which is to be expected but I had one twig take it down to the bare metal

Exactly. I understand marks.. but going to metal so easily is not ok.

With the amount of cars that are produced and if they are able to cut cost by adding a a fraction of materials than they are saving billions of dollars. Coming down to a numbers game where sales out weigh quality.
We just bought a new 2020 GX460 in Pearl so I’m curious of the model years you are seeing in your shop .
Thanks in advance.

Another 2020 Super White owner here. I haven't had any significant problems yet, but did notice some chipping at the edges of the rear bumper where it meets the quarter panel. Not a huge deal as the piece is plastic, however, I do have concerns that it chips/peels further.

Definitely disappointing to see, but certainly not limited to Toyota. I saw similar things happy with a white Focus ST I owned for a bit.

I have a black 2010 Trail that I bought new and I noticed right away that the paint was soft . If I’m not careful when washing and drying a fingernail can scratch right down to the primer .

I just did a 2010 GX, I rarely see it on newer cars. Even the Honda pilots we do are at least 10 years old. People rarely keep their cars for more than 6 years so it’s usually the second owner that has to deal with the issue

As an update, I have been working through a case with Toyota. Toyota has offered to paint the two metal areas where the scratches and chip are. Have a call soon with the local dealership on how long that will need it to make the repairs (paint passenger door and rear gate.)

Has anyone here had paint jobs like this done by a dealer? Curious as to any experiences.

Good thing they don't refresh very often. The kinks they find the first couple of years will be fixed and everything will be great from then on.
