I went with Aux beam from amazon, I changed Hi-beams low beams and the fogs. I think it took around 20-30 minutes. I just swapped out my reverse light bulbs and all interior bulbs. One of the best investments. Next up is turn signals, brake and mirror bulbs. I have had Aux beam for a while and there have been no issues.

Failure.....

I am declaring the fog lights below - a failure !!! The beam was totaly unfocused and the light was projected upwards into on coming drivers.

They have been removed -

may try out these - when i determine how difficult it is to change the assembly

Now I'm in the desert (no fog - or not enough to worry about). I, like probably many others, use the 'fog lights' as driving lights / cornering lights. The added peripheral illumination they provide can be invaluable (when a kid dressed in dark clothes darts across a 6 lane street on his bicycle on a dark and rainy night). Back in the White Mountains or Green Mountains i'd prefer yellow over white anyday, but here in a desert city the color is not as important to me as is the peripheral illumination, and not blinding other drivers.

Referencing the point made about reflectors, I was under the impression the our headlights are projectors and the foglights are reflectors. Thank you Toyota for giving us both Many members have had success upgrading the headlights with LED (though HIDs are even better), and upgrading the foglights with XD leds. In my opinion, the most important factor would be to not decrease vision, and the second most important factor would be to not bling other drivers. (Though if you drive around Phoenix at night, the second most important factor is often not observed).

That said it has not been long enough to grade the headlights though the few times i've used them, they seemed better than stock and no flashes yet. Fog lights will take a while till i can put some miles on them at night. It appears the LED technology has come a long way in a fairly short period of time. From the 'all in one' headlight bulb i used to the newer 4 sided led fog light, these are making bulb swaps easier and safer.

Interesting point you've got about the lights, makes me wonder why they are not called driving lights or cornering lights and I'd guess the car company's lawyers have something to do with that.
I replaced my stock '19 SR5P reflector "fog" lights with '19 T4R Limited LED "fogs" and they are 5X better.

How difficult was it to change out the fog light assembly?

Driver side seems easy enough, passenger side i can't find a way to remove the plastic behind the light. I can get my hand in there to change a bulb, but i need to remove the plastic protector to be able to remove the entire light.

Just wanted anyone interested to see this very detailed write up. I believe anything that fits these Tacos should fit the 5th Gen 4R as well. I was pretty surprised at the failure of the BD SAEs, since they make quality stuff. I was unsurprised at the quality of the Rigid kit, but $$$ as usual from them. The KC kit as reviewed is on the top of my to do list...

The LED SAE J583 Fog Pod & Fog Light Review | Tacoma World

@CMTAZ , in order to get at the fog assembly you should plan on removing the front bumper cover. It's not difficult at all.

I am going to read through those tacoma world threads, but it seems like LED upgrades to fogs are a pretty popular mod and I havent seen too much in the negative about it.

I put these in last week, and man.... They are AWESOME. The light is focused and bright. Cut the shit out of my pinky finger installing the passenger side on my limited and had to get stitches, but it was well worth it as I do a lot of night time driving. Thanks for the recommendation.

Lay on the ground (passenger side) remove (2) 10mm bolts holding up the plastic stuff directly under fog light area. this allows you to bend back the wheel well and have full access to the fog light. for whatever reason they put a shield there, I pulled mine bottom center towards rear of the runner and 3 clips popped out, put the shield on the ground, now you can see everything you need to see. 2 screws and the fog comes out. 1st time I tried I cut the hell out of my hand because I didn't know to pull the wheel well back, read others are pulling the bumper (thats not hard by the way) but what I said above takes no more than 5 minutes to change the fog, maybe 10 1st time around

The passenger side was a pain in the ass with that protective piece. I have a limited, so I'm not sure how much different it is than other models. I accessed it from the top. I removed the retainer clip from the plastic piece and had to bend the crap out of it to finally get it to move out of the way. Be careful with the AC lines in that area. My mistake was when I was bending it, I was pulling on it really hard to move it and it finally budged but my pinky slid across something inside of the bumper and cut it real good. I'd try the other method listed above first.

It has clips and pops off, it's way easier if you take the bumper off.

Highly recommend the Morimoto XB Black LED fog lights, I freaking love mine and they're plug and play

Does anyone know if there is a writeup on the install of these? It sounds like the passenger side could be a little tricky, and I like to have all the info I need when I tackle these things.

For those that missed my post. No need to pull the bumper.
Remove (2) 10mm bolts shown in pic. Push wheel well away and you'll have full access to the fog light. The cover over the fog? Grab it and it pops right out. Simple, easy and your done in 3 minutes.
