Update in progress.

Took vehicle to dealer on Sat, told to pick up on Monday. Nothing was done by the third party. I let dealer have it - they didn't even inspect.

Reached out to Toyota Corporate, opened a complaint, and also reached out to Third Party corporate - which confirmed that shocks, springs, moving components, and electrical are not coated in the service. Since they were all very much coated, it cannot be undone.

Dealer is trying to resolve and is exploring potential to put me in a new 4Runner as a result. We will see. The current one has been in my driveway less than 14 days.

ZIEBART? You just paid to get your vehicle ruined. Take it as a lesson learned.

Stick with liquid undercoatings.

So far sounds like you have a pretty good dealer on your side that's working to make it right. Let's hope they keep it up if push comes to shove!

Update on this - Dealer ended up replacing the vehicle. I'm in another new midnight black 19 ORP w/KDSS.

Crazy, but it's done with!

I agree, to have a new truck destroyed in this way is very messed up. Also having to to use your own personal time to deal this BS is uncalled for. Good thing your dealership decided to replace the truck for you. If this was me I would've tried to get some compensation for all the stress they put me through....maybe a free TRD Intake would suffice?

I thought about asking for more compensation but quite honestly, they could have drug this out much more. Ziebart franchise owner/VP were of no assistance as one might expect. The took out $1K off the small loan amount to compensate for time and also the cost of the Ziebart.

They had to dealer swap my new one in, and that took a few days, but I'm pleased with the outcome. Better than getting stuck with that disaster.

Just broke the 100 mile mark this morning and a small pile of goodies to add. Baja SAEs, Rigid Midnights/CaliRaised ditch brackets, Pro valances and a canvasback set. Those parts have been getting lonely for the past few weeks.

Good to hear it all worked out at the end and that $1,000 off was really nice on them, now go buy that TRD intake and exhaust with the money you saved on your loan.

I guess the only good thing left in Commifornia is the the weather and not having to worry about rust. After 15 years in Minnesota I understand the need for under coating.

Late to the thread here, but a few years ago I had WaxOyl done at JE Robison Service in Mass (JE Robison Service | Waxoyl--the best rustproofing for your British automobile) on my Jeep Unlimited Rubicon (4 door). It was done right. They spent a day on prep., masking everything off and only spraying what needed to be sprayed. They used a combo of the hard black stuff for the exposed surfaces, and clear stuff for inside body panel cavities and inside the frame. I've since sold the Jeep, and I am finalizing the deal on a '17 4Runner. I'd like to get that done on the 4Runner too. Back then ('13) it cost about $1200, but it looks like it's about 1400 now. Not a bad price at all.

You're not far off. Don't agree with that as a blanket statement, about rubberized undercoatings (maybe about the place you mention, I have never hear or dealt with them). There is nothing wrong with rubberized undercoatings when done right; ie when truck is new and/or the sprayed body panels are clean and rust free. It has always been resevered for body panels and nothing else, at least in my experience.

I do agree spraying everything like that, and over and over, is fkn stupid.

Any idiot should understand coating anything over exist rust with anything but a rust nuetralizing agent, is the absolute worst thing you could do, it will continue to rust and rust and rust. The asshats that owned that truck kept having rust coated every year!

I have only used liquid/soluble wax protectents since the original undercoat.
